Looks cute. The way Finding Nemo was cute. I saw the trailer a few months ago and am looking forward to it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Wall-E kind of reminds me of a retarded cybernetic E.T. I hope this isn't the case. Kleeborg was rather dumb in the 80's and his trash compactor brother better have a brain two decades later.
That being said, I cannot knock the studios past performances too much, so it probably cannot be that bad.

Looks like it might be interesting. If I'm somewhere that has a $5 movie night, I'll go see it, or if I have a friend that really wants to see it, I'll go with them, but other than that, probably not. I'm not really up for the kid movies.

Like somany teasers, we have virtually NO idea what the movie is about... We see les then 10seconds of a Robot compacting trash cubes before he looks up at the sky.
So Im fully reseving ANY comments till we get a proper trailer.

Well, the design looks like a ripoff of Johnny-5, and Pixar's gotten mediocrity down to a fine art, but I do like robot stories when they're done somewhat well. I'll probably rent this when it comes out on DVD.

Well, in terms of technical quality and complexity of animation, it's probably one of the best movies ever made; remember the scene with them driving through the waterfall? It crashed the Pixar render farm. (They released Chicken Little while they were trying to get the scene rendered successfully.)Starglider wrote:IMHO Cars was pretty damn mediocre.Shinova wrote:I don't think we need elaboration. I enjoyed it, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion.

That's a really poor criteria to solely judge the quality of an animated film. As an example, The Incredibles is one of the most visually amazing films I've ever seen, but the reason it's one of my favourite films is because of the outstanding writing, characters, and performances.Molyneux wrote:Well, in terms of technical quality and complexity of animation, it's probably one of the best movies ever made
There have been plenty of animated films that look incredible but are rather terrible storywise.

Seriously, this doesn't make it a great film any more than an action movie having a massive special effects budget does.
It's ok. You're allowed to enjoy mediocre films. Just as long as you don't rave about their awesomeness afterwards.I enjoyed it, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion.

I think others in this thread have pretty much summed up my thoughts about Pixar. Their technology might be to-notch, but the actual stories are just generic recycled drivel. The only Pixar movie I've seen that I'd actually classify as a good movie was The Incredibles, and even that had a few moments that really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Sure, if you want something to plunk your kids in front of to get them out of your hair for 90 minutes or so you could do worse than a Pixar movie, but they really don't deserve the image they've been getting as the company that can do no wrong.

I thought Ratatouille was fairly original. It wasn't a great film, nor did I think it was a good children's film, but it was quirky and kinda fun. Not mediocre. Finding Nemo was kinda bland, much moreso than Monsters Inc, I suppose that might quality as 'mediocre'. I confess I have an irrational liking for 'A Bugs Life', even though its plotline was quite generic ('Antz' was much more interesting though visually less refined).Drooling Iguana wrote:I think others in this thread have pretty much summed up my thoughts about Pixar. I think the Toy Story movies are pretty amazing even now, but other than that, I'm not totally sure how I feel about Pixar's other films.

I've quite liked Pixar's films up until Cars, which I found rather bland. (I haven't seen Rattatouille yet.) Not only were the graphics excellent, I found the stories and acting to be top notch. I have no idea where certain people are coming from with their mediocrity nonsense.

Saw that trailer with AVP2 and Sweeney Todd. He looks cuter than ever...and I definitely like that the design of his 'head' both suggests binoculars and gives him a perpetual cute expression.Zor wrote:Sorry if this is necromacy, but their is a new WALL-E Trailer up.

The thing that landed looked like one of the turret robots from Portal.
I can just see it now, Wall-E making lots and lots of Weighted Noncompanion Cubes because he sucks, and then a turret bot comes donw, lights up and says "There you are" and BLAM BLAM. Movie ends.
Hopefully this movie has some spunk. Doing a robot movie without actual, you know, bodies and hands and such is really just phoning it in more than CARS. I loved the Incredibles, but I even thought Finding Nemo was a bit of a cop out (c'mon, fish? Fucking FISH? How hard can it be to animate a fish?) even if I liked it and it's really been kinda meh from them. I thought Ratatouille was absolutely perfect though, so maybe they're doing Wall-E as an animation light, concept rich story that'll be enjoyable but just less 'animated'. More open vistas and quiet. It could be a daring new move--or suck. We'll see. Maybe the little meek robot will rise up and smite the newcomers? I'd consider that a kinda lame move, considering the advertising doesn't at all indicate that.
