Need a reference from ITW, re. AT-AT height

Post by Rogue 9 »

I'm currently trying to correct Wikipedia's article on Imperial walkers to insert the correct height for the AT-AT, but I'm being stymied by the Databank, the OT cross-sections book not having the figures, and Wikipedia's policies labeling the Technical Commentaries as "unreliable." According to citations in Wookieepedia's article, the Inside the Worlds book lists the correct height, but I don't have that; can someone provide the page citations so I can include them?

I seem to recall the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels putting it at 40 meters tall.

Or is that the "wrong" height?

The Technical Commentaries are "unreliable"? What sort of bullshit is that?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Wikipedia's sort of bullshit. It's considered a fan site, and there's a blanket policy stating that fan sites are not acceptable sources, apparently even when maintained by an author for the franchise in question.

"Complete Cross Sections" page 140 lists the AT-AT at 15.5 meters tall and 20.6 meters long.

22.5 meters in the ITW-entry about the Titan-dropship.

Great. WEG's bullshit is spreading.

Scaling from Luke and the snowspeeder being stepped on clearly shows a height of at least 22 meters. Scaling from the handrail on the platform at the Endor base when the AT-AT walks up to it shows the same result.

Oh that's not the half of it, because the scaling in the ILLUSTRATION of the AT-AT in the SAME BOOK gives it a much different figure. Quick and dirty scaling from that shows the AT-AT has to be a little closer to 25-26 meters. I'm hoping it's just a typo with a "1" put in place of a "2" but I doubt that is the case.

If you're really tired of this kind of bullshit, just take their figures and extrapolate from there: If the AT-AT is in fact 15.5 meters tall, then Luke Skywalker is just slightly over 46 inches tall.

I'm pretty sure it's battened down now, in favor of the correct height.
