Battle of the Nebulas

Post by Wicked Pilot »

OK, here is my first entry into the SWvsST forum. Myself, not having the greatest knowledge of the vs debates, have a question for you. Who would win, the Nebula class, or the Nebulon B class?

We will assume that they meet in deep space, and both mysteriousily have their warp/hyperdrives disabled. Both ship crews are of average competence. And both ships are in subclass optmized for combat (ie Nebula was weapon pod, Nebulon B is not a converted medical frigate). Who wins?
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

All the Nebulan B needs is to hit the nebula once or twice and nebual makes a big boom. :D

That's not quite true, more like a 2000Lb bomb vs. a Humm-vee.

A Neb B could peobuabbly destroy the entire Federation inventory of Nebula's given time, even if they where all in one big group.

A Nebulon B frigate, while designed for combating starfighters, also maintains some capital ship scale weapons. It also carries two squadrons of starfighters, which could in and of themselves likely combat a Nebula class ship. The frigate wins.

The frigate wins. Even light Imperial weapons are more than enough to trash most federation ships. Once you factor in fighters it's a gangbang for the Imps.

For some reason I just can't grasp the concept that the Neb-B can hold them..... To me the Neb-B looks freakishly too small to carry them.

Easily the Nebulon-B. It's MTLs could turn the NCS into debris.

Nebulon by a lot, but certainly a less one-sided matchup than an ISD. A Federation task force could probably be put together that could go toe-to-toe against a Neb-B.

AFAIK all the weapons are foward firing, so in a fleet engagement this could be a huge problem.

If the Nebula-class concentrates all its phasers and torpedoes onto the tenuous stalk in the N-B's middle, it MIGHT have a chance, unless the N-B's weapons are independently powered.

Irrelevent. It carries most of them in external racks, as shown in ESB.

The deck plans show a internal hanger. The fact that a much much larger light freighter must be docked externally doesn't tell us anything other then it has a hatch.

Nebulon-B frigate wins easily. The fact that most of the weapons are anti-fighter grade means that they'll have a fairly easy time tracking the Feddie ship. Think mass fire, all in one spot. Boom.

Just have the Neb-B turn around. The ions off the engine will make the Nebula's warp core overload.

LOL....sorry the KDY Neb rapes the poor Fed vessel.

It has Captial grade TL on it...as well two squads of fighters.

Sure this isn't quite the ISD vs GCS...

Two assclowns have voted for the NCS show yourselves, even if it's just to say you clicked on the wrong button.

If your an ISD doing this sure. If your a poor wee feddy ship firing what are BB rounds compared to the power of SW shields then no.

No so GAT. In ROTJ we see a Nebulon B Trigate shooting from the side at the SSD Executor. The scene when the ships exchange broadsides.

Clearly, the Federation ship wins this one. For plot purposes, it is the superior vessel. As one of their large ships, it can carry a flag crew, which gives it ungodly character shielding. Also, it looks like what it is - a large Federation ship, again insuring its dominance due to brainless writers. Finally, the Nebulon-B is a run of the mill ship while the Nebula is fairly prestigious in Starfleet. Again, this insures that the brainless writers will skew the setting so it can win.

So, do I win any points?
