I guess I wasn't clear enough. Your entire country leans redneck. There are pockets of civilization in the urban centres, surrounded by vast seas of redneck stupidity. That's why anti-gay bills passed by an average of 80% in the last election.

My parents definitely aren't redneck, but especially my mom believes a lot of stuff the media throws out without questioning any of it. It kinda seems like a lot of people depend on the media nowadays as a crutch to tell them what to think. What did they teach those baby boomers in schools?

Try watching educational videos from the 1950s and 1960s. That will give you an idea of why baby boomers are collectively so fucking stupid.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with it being bullshit. I remember the story and didn't see anything about him refusing to recite the pledge or anything like that. And even if he did, who fucking cares? Nationalists aside, of course.

Hmm. Snopes says that it is true that Obama didn't put his hand over his heart while the anthem was being sung. Even so, I don't see why putting the hand over the heart during the anthem should be considered a necessary condition for being president; it's not like this is relevant at all to any policy issues.

Why not? I'd say there's real evidence that every generation since the Baby Boomers has better sense than they did. During their early adulthood, the Boomers fell into two groups:

1) Racist warmongers.
2) Drug-addicted New Age hippies.

And the second group eventually joined the first. Even today, movements like the massive push toward the right-wing in America have been fueled largely by the Boomers. Younger people are far more likely to be liberal.
