No booze in the car means no goddamned booze in the car, moron. I don't give a flying fuck whether it's opened, or who drank it, or what other kind of plausible deniability you can come up with. And what kind of flaming imbecile thinks that "no booze in the car" is an unreasonable rule, anyway? Oh yeah, you.alexholker wrote:My point is that her rule was poorly defined and went beyond what was neccessary to protect the car or her kid. Hence, as I said, if I had been in her son's place, I would not have assumed that the presence of an unopened bottle of alcohol would have broken her rules.Knife wrote:Why? You expect a reasonable parent to let a kid keep a car when either he/she lies about drinking in it or does not moderate what comes into his/her car? This just stinks of teenage self-entitlement to me. He didn't own the car, didn't pay for it, and didn't follow the rules set forth for him to use the car.

That's not entirely correct. Some states, you can drink at home or under parental supervision and even for some educational purposes, under the age of 21.Darth Servo wrote:Even without the drinking and driving point, 19 is still too young to legally drink.Teebs wrote:At first after reading this I thought, "the kid's 19, who cares if he has alcohol the mum sounds like a complete nutter." It depends on how nosy your neighbors are and the state you live in. Parents giving kids alcohol while underaged can be slapped with shit like "contributing to the deliquency of a minor" and other fun stuff if they get reported.Stark wrote:Can't you ALWAYS drink at home or under parental supervision? So if I decide to give Matthew a taste of beer so he'll know what it's like rather than thinking of it as some kind of magical forbidden fruit for the next 7 years, I'd better not tell anyone about it?General Zod wrote:It depends on how nosy your neighbors are and the state you live in. I doubt you'd get convicted. The last successfully prosecuted case of parental contribution to the delinquency of a minor in my area was when a parent arranged for a sweet sixteen party for her daughter, complete with a keg of beer and a male stripper.Darth Wong wrote: So if I decide to give Matthew a taste of beer so he'll know what it's like rather than thinking of it as some kind of magical forbidden fruit for the next 7 years, I'd better not tell anyone about it?

Due to this falling under the purview of state governments, underage drinking laws are a patchwork across the country. There are a number of states where any under-21 consumption is prohibited, period, no exceptions for family or location. There are states that make exceptions, and then there are states where under-21 consumption is not explicitly prohibited but under-21 purchase is, and "furnishing alcohol to minors" is also an offense. But of course, under-21 purchase/consumption is effectively illegal everywhere because Congress likes to make my life difficult. Can't you ALWAYS drink at home or under parental supervision? Drinking in public is always illegal and minors can't be served at licenced premises, but I didn't think any laws in the US prohibited private, 'at home' drinking.

Depends. What are Canada's laws on the matter. I'm sure here in the States some cock hole lawyer could find a way to twist it into child endangerment or unfit parenting or some such bullshit, but hell, I wouldn't tell anyone about it.Darth Wong wrote:So if I decide to give Matthew a taste of beer so he'll know what it's like rather than thinking of it as some kind of magical forbidden fruit for the next 7 years, I'd better not tell anyone about it?General Zod wrote:It depends on how nosy your neighbors are and the state you live in. Booze in teen driver's car = illegal.
Hang on, if you have a crate of beer on the backseat completely unopened, that's illegal in california?

In California, if you are under 21 and there is beer in the cab of the vehicle, and nobody OVER 21 is present, that's against the law.Superman wrote:"Poorly defined?" Bwahaha!
And CC, you don't have to put your beer you're bringing home from the store in the trunk. There's no "trunk" law in the California penal code; just don't open the containers.
Trust me, missing that question made me fail my permit test the first time. Its not open container, its ANY container if you're under 21.

You'd have to do something stupid (as already cited) like provide a fucking keg party with liquor for him and his friends who drove all while underage, and they'd have to still be loud or pulled over with a DUI in order to actually get arrested.Darth Wong wrote: So if I decide to give Matthew a taste of beer so he'll know what it's like rather than thinking of it as some kind of magical forbidden fruit for the next 7 years, I'd better not tell anyone about it?

Good for that mother. I do not feel sorry for that spoiled brat one minute. Wah mom looked in my, her car, and found a bottle of beer, does it matter if it was open, and sold his wheels because of a previously know rule that was the condition of sing the car she was paying for.
I still am not sure how this makes her the nosiest mother on the planet. Here is a clue idiot, If you aren't paying the title the car isn't your. Can't live by the rules to let you use it. Too bad.

Exactly. Anywhere in the cab, you could conceivably reach. The law is written that way so you don't have to be 21 to commercially transport alcohol in California.Cpl Kendall wrote:Because you can't get to it while your driving. BC and Ontario have similar lawsSuperman wrote:

I had to learn this shit for the corrections academy a few years ago. Minors can't be in possession, unless they're operating a truck or something. [/quote]23224. (a) No person under the age of 21 years shall knowingly drive any motor vehicle carrying any alcoholic beverage, unless the person is accompanied by a parent, responsible adult relative, any other adult designated by the parent, or legal guardian for the purpose of transportation of an alcoholic beverage, or is employed by a licensee under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (Division 9 (commencing with Section 23000) of the Business and Professions Code), and is driving the motor vehicle during regular hours and in the course of the person's employment. If the driver was unaccompanied, he or she shall have a complete defense if he or she was following, in a timely manner, the reasonable instructions of his or her parent, legal guardian, responsible adult relative, or adult designee relating to disposition of the alcoholic beverage.
