12 Florida Schools Pass Anti-Evolution Resolutions

Post by Ace Pace »

Uh...what?
Oscar Howard Jr., superintendent of Taylor County’s School District, and Danny Lundy, vice chairman of the School Board, spoke in accents from that other Florida. ‘’We’re opposed to teaching evolution as a fact,'’ Howard said, adding that his School Board and 11 others have passed resolutions against the imposition of evolution in the school curriculum.
How the hell does this shit happen? Oh wait, it's Florida.[/quote]

We can only hope that this shit is undone and said school board members are voted out.

Well, I guess one positive aspect of global warming is that Florida will end up underwater.

All that means, is that they will scurry northward.

As for the topic, it does make me laugh how bad this not only makes those schools look, but how bad it makes the good students in those high schools try to apply for decent colleges.

Course this all boils down to sheer ignorance on the population not grasping what fact, theory, and hypothesis fucking mean as scientific terminology...but then again, what's new.

That sucks. I had thought the risk of getting their asses whipped in a second Dover-style case would have scared the shit out of anyone trying to pull this kind of crap (it certainly did in my home state, Utah).

I suppose as long as the curriculum doesn't change, then this is simply some conservative School Board members blowing smoke in order to get re-elected in a (probably) conservative area. We'll have to see if they actually do anything on February 19th.

Taylor County is in the Panhandle, i.e., South Georgia/Alabama. Its the cosmopolitan, liberal areas which will get flooded-out first.

Meh, the world would be much better off if there were no Florida. For one thing, we'd have had President Gore instead of President Bush, and that's just the beginning of the benefits.

Whereas, the new Sunshine State Standards for Science no longer present evolution as theory but as “the fundamental concept underlying all of biology and is supported in multiple forms of scientific evidence,
This alone is proof of how retarded these people are. They don't seem to realize that the two statements are fairly synonymous. Oh, wait, they're using the fundy-moron definition of 'theory'.

I don't know. Gore looks good now, and anyone is better than Bush. Under Clinton, though, he was as keen to sabotage climate change talks as any other capitalist loving Senator back then. It seems Gore turned around after losing to Dubya and then thought "Hey, maybe saving the planet is a good idea".

Though we'd have no Iraq. Guess that has to do.

As for this decision? Stupid is as stupid does. If their goal is to reduce America to a festering wound of intolerance and backwardness in the world post-Enlightenment, then their sky pixie must be proud.

The reader comments are even better:
How do you know there were no "fire breathing dragons"? Are you sure there was no such thing even though many ancient legends speak of them. The Bible is not the only record of fire breathing dragons.

I deduce aliens have invaded us already. There are plenty of good books dealing with the subject if we're going to use FICTION as a gauge of objective reality.

:( The coasts aren't so bad... I wish we'd secede north-central FL and all of the panhandle to Alabama, Georgia, et al, where they belong.

Before they got their own baseball team, Southern Florida was a bastion of New York Yankees fans. That really says something about the make-up of the area. I mean, not only do not rednecks not follow baseball in general, those who do sure as hell aren't NYY fans.

If I didn't like my school so much, I would very likely move to somewhere like Detroit to avoid associating myself with these hatfuckers.

Why would you go to Detroit? Not like Detroit has been known as a bastion for learning.

Try New York City, San Antonio, Austin, or anywhere on the West Coast if you want some semblance of liberal educated civilization. Houston's West Side is okay too.

Don't forget about Boston! I'd say they're the best American city for "liberal educated civilization", as you put it.

Would it be wrong to deny modern antibiotics to people who don't believe evolution to be occuring as a fact? Obviously they wouldn't need it because current strains of bacteria have not randomly mutated the ability to be immune from unmodified penicillin.

It's pretty fucking stupid they can saying evolution is wrong by a simply voting about it. What's next? By majority vote it is now decided that the earth is flat and the moon is made out of cheese?
