I won't be able to suspend disbelief for long, the fact that technology can't go back in time but a terminator can threw me off the first movie, what are the rules here, only bio matter can come through? So cotton can't come through I guess? Does it have to be "live" bio matter? Does your hair and eyebrows disappear?
In the first Terminator, it's stated that this is done through the bio-electric fields emitted by all living things. Like the Terminator's living tissue covering. I guess in T2, the T-1000's polymorphic abilities also allowed it to mimic said bio-electric field. Maybe its liquid metal was also "living" metal, in a sense (though not biotech or organic crap).

Skynet was reverse-engineered from tech recovered from the first terminator's wreckage. It's obvious the reason terminators and their master still existed was because someone worked on tech recovered from the one Sarah killed in the pilot, i.e., the one that went undercover as a teacher. So the smart thing to do would've been to hide out in Mexico or wherever, until Sarah & Co. find out where Mr. Terminator's wreckage was kept, and then go there to destroy it.

Going forward in time to get some breathing room obviously did NOT work, considering Sarah & Co. were captured on camera and put on the news as people who interrupted traffic by appearing naked in the middle of the road. Whoever thought this up should've been shot.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

I think it's more likely that T-1000 was simply coated with living skin, although this coating was burned off when he crashed that big rig. (Robotech used the same trick to travel back in time in Frank Miller's 'RoboCop vs. The Terminator'.)

Bio-eletric fields = Time travel???
Well anyway at least I know the guidelines, I still don't understand how this prohibits clothes and objects. if it was something to do with the transportation process, ie: don't wear a shirt unless you want it permantnently grafted to you, but we didnt see Sarah and co. strip before they went to the future, something removed their clothing so it seems something limits them from coming along.
The bio electric field seems to transport only what it is conducted through. Technology left inside a cow would not come along unless it was conducting the bio electric field

That renders all the sacrafices in the second movie pointless than doesn't it, eat that Governator!

No. The time-machine only works on things with bioelectric fields. It can't time-travel dead objects.

Hrm...I shall see if I can catch this series on TV.

unfortuantely the lifespan of the series depends on it remaining pointless, even though the purpose of the series is to NOT make it pointless.

The rule is that only living stuff goes through. Skynet cheats with the terminators by wrapping them in the same living tissue coating that lets them blend in.

The T-1000 is the only snag in this but it came after we got the explanation.. though IIRC in an original draft of the script wasn't it supposed to show up in a big flesh sack?

I believe originally yes. Afterwards, maybe it was able to perfectly mimic living tissue that it was able to.

For me, the episode was more blah then usual television. The whole "Look another time machine!!!" just drew me out completely.

True, but I greatly prefer the status quo in SCC to "Judgment Day is inevitable," as per T3. SCC seems to reflect the uncertainty at the end of T2...indeed, the movie ends and series begins with nearly the same image.

Well, whoever thought it up obviously wasn't expecting them to happen to plop down in the middle of the one highway with drunken guys who also happen to be carrying camcorders. Seems like a complete accident to me.

Which is something else that I think is odd: the time travel systems have so far been accurate enough to drop Terminators and humans in low-population areas, up until now. It might have had something to do with the speedy nature of the time jump they performed, which is why it dropped them in the open.

Funny thing is that on youtube there is a deleted scene from Terminator showing someone picking up the microchip they used in T2.

Is there any difference between the premiere episode and the pilot that leaked out a few months ago?

Sidewinder wrote:They better have a better explanation for "travel to 2007 to stop Skynet" than what was given in the first episode. What, they couldn't wait a few years, until more info on the Skynet Project becomes available, and sabotage it some time in 2000-2006 instead of that? It's like waiting for an enemy to draw a pistol before acting to defend yourself, instead of rushing forward to attack while the enemy's weapon is still in its holster.
I'm not sure if they had much choice in the matter. Cameron seems to know a lot more about what's going on than she says (the previews for tonight's part indicate as much) and the general impression I got was that they jumped ahead because of fears that John and Sarah wouldn't survive the next few years, with the FBI chasing them and Skynet apparently stepping up the Terminator-sending. If the preview is any indication, the resistence is sending a lot more people back in time, and if that's the case, so would Skynet.

I was referring to the scriptwriter, not the guy who built the time machine.

was this show any good and does it have the potential to get better? I am intrigued by the idea and presence of Summer Glau, but am not actually sure if the show is worth watching. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, so, um, anybody want to hazard a guess as to how the terminator's metallic head survived time-travel in the opening of tonight's episode?

There was enough biomatter covering remaining to have it come through, but it was then burned off.

I don't understand how any of you can watch this show. The T-800 in the pilot was a complete nincompoop.

Wow. This show is actually growing on me. I actually can't wait to find out what happens next. I feel unclean. :D

So there's another Resistance guy out there. That has some potential.

And, it's obvious that Future John obviously had some dealings with Cameron. So what? They were lovers (I foresee much fanfiction if this show sticks around)? There's no Brewster character?

Seems kind of odd for John to have stuck around with a terminator long enough for her to learn that one of his favorite stories was Wizard of Oz. Unless he was planning for something like this. Or there was the whole knowing that he needed to send her back angle.

Hell, I think in one of the versions of the script for Terminator they had John reveal to one of his lieutenants that the reason he always had Reese stick around him and specifically picked him for the first Terminator mission was because it was his father. Something he could never tell Reese.

Yes, there are many dumb bits. But so far, like Heroes, I can ignore that for now. Though, I just think that the gun in the leg Terminator was an early model that was dumb as a pile of bricks.

Oh, the fanfiction. I can already see:

Tons of badly written Cameron/John;
Gary Stus showing up to "help" Sarah;
Sarah/Cameron femslash;
Sarah/Original (Arnold) Terminator;
Evil Terminators raping Sarah and/or Cameron and/or John;
and worst of all... Harry Potter crossovers.

But as for the show itself... I like it. We'll see where it goes, but it's hasn't been a wasted two hours.

I've said it before, but if there is fanfiction, they need to realize that Cameron obviously weighs quite a bit. Therefore, John needs to be on top.

I'd buy it for a dollar, but I see no compelling reason for the Terminator's passage to be delayed just long enough for Our Heroes not to notice it.

I will say that a lot of cool things happened too, though. I really like the idea of a Shadow War going on through time between Terminators and human soldiers, although the concept requires more development and explanation.

But I can't believe they killed Bre'tac! :P
