You so rarely see Summer Glau with makeup on that when she had it at the end of the episode, it made me feel... funny

It seems one reason the Connors jumped forward in time was so Sarah's cancer could be treated with "futuristic" medical tech. That partly excuses the stupidity of the plot, but what about the flayed terminator? If it was covered in flesh that was later burned off, why isn't the endoskeleton covered in charred meat or even ashes? And how the hell did it manage to walk around with no head? Does it have chest-mounted sensors, like General Grievous' bodyguards?
At least the producers were being consistent with the damages to Cameron's skin. The fact that another terminator identified her as "unidentified cyborg" seems to suggest John Connor was the one who ordered her construction, not Skynet.

That scene was from T2. I can't remember if it's described in The Making of Terminator 2 or Terminator 2: Judgment Day: The Book of the Film, but it is described. If you can find a copy of one of these books, you can read the scene for yourself.neoolong wrote:Hell, I think in one of the versions of the script for Terminator they had John reveal to one of his lieutenants that the reason he always had Reese stick around him and specifically picked him for the first Terminator mission was because it was his father. Something he could never tell Reese.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

IIRC, the head already had all the synthetic flesh removed when it fell off its body in 1999. In any case, there were already large portions of metal showing, and the head exited completely devoid of flesh. It was basically unprotected.General_Soontir_Fel wrote:There was enough biomatter covering remaining to have it come through, but it was then burned off.
Also, what was the body doing in a junkyard? That means somebody had to haul it there, and in nearly a decade, nobody thought to check out the cool robot skeleton?
The show is interesting, but I get the feeling this is going to have lots of plotholes.

The endoskeleton followed the Connors to 2007 when it got caught in the time portal... whatever. But you have a valid point. What was the cleanup crew thinking when they saw the endoskeleton, besides "Cool, a robot skull. It'll look great on my coffee table"? No one thought to call a special effects studio, a robotics manufacturer (we have plenty of those now), a government agency, etc., about the metal skeleton that appeared out of nowhere?Mad wrote:Also, what was the body doing in a junkyard? I think the endoskeleton got left behind. The head was bouncing around and somehow went through the portal despite having no biomatter protecting it, but the skeleton collapsed to the floor. When the trio appeared in 2007, the head also appeared, still bouncing around. If the endoskeleton had followed them, it would've been noticed.Sidewinder wrote:The endoskeleton followed the Connors to 2007 when it got caught in the time portal... whatever. Conceded. That still doesn't explain why the hell the endoskeleton ended up in a scrap pile instead of being taken to a government, military, or industrial lab, a la what you see in T2. What, did the police assume it was an oversized paperweight that the Connors brought into the vault?Mad wrote:I think the endoskeleton got left behind. The scripted scene also appears on the Ultimate Edition DVD.If you can find a copy of one of these books, you can read the scene for yourself.

Unfortunately, I missed the pilot - but the second episode was actually pretty pleasant to watch. I kind of think they ought to have John doing more - he needs to show some leadership skills. And I'm slightly worried about what will happen if the show centers in a high school for more than 1-2 episodes (the preview of the third episode).

Hopefully it keeps getting better, it's still under "ok" for me but it's getting close if they slow down on silly goofs. From the changing of rules to them just forgetting certain things they need to sharpen the writing/direction up and start to explain things.
One example that bugs me more than it should. How heavy are the Terminators? Been a few occasions where humans have not treated the Terminator actors like they are machines. Sarah Connor shoving and slapping Cameron, unknown model but still should have enough mass and density to go toe-to-toe with a T-8xx.

"Somehow I feel, that in the long run, Thanos of Titan came out ahead in this particular deal."
We actually don't know how heavy and dense a Terminator is. They certainly aren't solid metal. They just can't be *that* far off from human size to be consistent with what we've seen.

If he weighs about the same as a human I would like to know how he punches through a solid metal vault. Wouldn't that either knock him over or if he is more pushing down into his feet, destroy the ground?

Yeah, the weight thing really bothered me too. Sarah picks Cameron up and puts her in a chair, then ejects her without much difficulty. The shoving thing too. I know the series is ignoring T3, which seems odd given that rumors of T4 are that it's continuing down that storyline...unless they're going with two different storylines now, but T3 captured this right when the firefighters tried to lift Awnuld.ArmorPierce wrote:If he weighs about the same as a human I would like to know how he punches through a solid metal vault. Also, with regards to T3, I believe the novel stated something to the effect that Cyberdyne had offsite back ups of it's work. Which would make sense with work that important/expensive/high tech, and that always really seemed to make sense for me. Even when I was younger after seeing T2 I came to this conclusion...why was all that important info only in Dyson's house and in the one Cyberdyne building? I believe that's why the agency working on Skynet and the prototype Terminators had a similar name. Work delayed, but not stopped.
Was there ever anything done to cover the plot holes of the first terminator's lower chasis (Reese pipe bombs him and I recall seeing the legs blown off but not destroyed) and the arm crushed in the gears in the second movie? These would also help Cyberdyne continue it's work after Dyson's death.

I'm fairly certain in the T2 novel they mention how John and Sarah go back through the factory and retrieve and destroy Uncle Bob's arm.
No clue about the leftovers from the T1 Arnold though.

the TV series and T4 are linked to my knowledge, so they may be doing multiple timelines ::cue benny hill theme and superimpose montage of star trek characters and the goateed trins, OR cue the many versions of SG-1 that all end up letting their earh get conquered::
They could jsut ignore the white elephant though, they did it with highlander II, (What was Connery THINKING?) and proclaim the one they Fecked up on the Rogue Edition, or they could do what Sylvester Stallone did with Ricky V and just flat out change the franchise titles and try not to mention it.
I vaguely remember Sarah connor having died of cancer as of T3 does anyone have the quote? is it the same year? Tht might indicate an attempt at a tie-in. i saw a spoiler for T4 that mentioned John's g/f dying in the mountain forcing him to venture out, but I thought they mentioned in the movie she was one of his LTs and was the one who reprogrammed the T-800 in T3. This could also be a divergent timeline if it pans out this way.

Beats me, but if those things weighed much more than humans they would have difficulty with bridges and such, and it wouldn't be so easy to flatten them with trucks. I always just reasoned that they were much stronger for their size than humans (heck, a chimp can be 3x stronger than us and that's still with muscle and bone). Cromartie does some crazy shit, but at least he didn't blast through the vault with one punch or anything.ArmorPierce wrote:If he weighs about the same as a human I would like to know how he punches through a solid metal vault. There's a deleted scene for the first film where one of the plant owners (or something) brings the uncrushed arm outside and shows it to another guy, and it's revealed the building was owned by Cyberdine (supposedly Cameron left it out because he thought the acting was bad).NeoGoomba wrote:No clue about the leftovers from the T1 Arnold though.

It was the legs that are in question that are unaccounted for from T1.
I believe someone else mentioned this vid is on Youtube. Search Terminator Deleted Scenes.

A chimp being 3x stronger than humans doesn't even approach being strong enough to but open a vault door like that. The problem is that unless he has the mass, him punching open the vault like that would react in him acting like a pogo stick when he hits it. Each action has an equal and opposite reaction and all that jazz.Anguirus wrote:Beats me, but if those things weighed much more than humans they would have difficulty with bridges and such, and it wouldn't be so easy to flatten them with trucks. Now ripping a safe door off, meh I dont see how that doesn't send some right through the floor. but if 226lb superman can catch an air plane on the nose without just breaking the top half of the plane off, then terminaotrs can punch through a safe.

Well then chalk it up as a physics violation, because if Cromartie was significantly more massive than a large human, he wouldn't get sent flying by an F-150.

Don't understand where you are getting at. Putting a nail through wood the force is transfered to the arm. It requires a certain amount of weight/pressure behind it. Sending a fist through the vault would require significantly more. Correct me if I'm wrong.Themightytom wrote:armor pierce:

Did anyone have the feeling of seeing an US flag fluttering in the background behind Sarah when she was doing the whole "9/11 is the same thing as a nuclear holocaust" thing? That was utterly groan inducing, totally SoD killing and stupidly unrealistic as a comparison. I've would have though that Americans would have pretty much the same reaction, but for some reason the editors left that in. So I'm asking the US posters - did you have a better reaction to it? Can you imagine some people getting a positive reaction to that scene? Or is it really a case of the editors not getting the memo that it isn't 2002 any more?
Anyhow, other then that utterly crap bit, the series has been meh to me so far. The first episode was ridden with pilotitis, but that is forgiveable - many good series have that problem. The second one not sitting down and setting some ground rules (like what kind of termy Cameron is) worries me. Keeping your options open is all well and good, but the quickest way for this type of series to turn to crap is trying to make shit up as they go along, especially with them trying to somehow fit the series into the both the overall continuity and its own time-travel heavy continuity.
On that note, I'm not sure if I should consider the Stig-termy (Cromarty) hilarious or something that should be looked at disapprovingly as an indicator of potential suckyness.
