Huckabee joins such luminaries as Sherri Shepherd as one of the dumbest fuckers on the planet. Leaving the country is looking like it won't be much of a joke anymore if this schmuck actually gets elected. The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
When Willie Geist reported Huckabee's opinion on MSNBC's Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski was almost speechless, and even Joe Scarborough couldn't immediately find much to say beyond calling it "interesting,"
Scarborough finally suggested that while he believes "evangelicals should be able to talk politics ... some might find that statement very troubling, that we're going to change the Constitution to be in line with the Bible. And that's all I'm going to say."
Geist further noted of Huckabee that if "someone without his charm," said that, "he'd be dismissed as a crackpot, but he's Mike Huckabee and he's bascially the front-runner."

Yeah, that whole Enlightenment...too radical! I saw Newt Gingrich on FNC last night, saying only the far loony left had elected officials. Wanting to dismiss the Founders' Enlightenment principles as too radical doesn't qualify Slimy Newt?

There are already plenty of countries who run their countries according to God's standards already. We've bombed the shit out of one already, rattling our sabres' at another, and we're bending over backwards for a third because they have a lot of what we want, even though their government in principle is no different than the first two.

Huckabee isn't the dumbest person in the world; he's the worst person in the world. Sure, there may be individuals who are more evil than he is, but at the moment he is poised to do more damage than anyone else, by virtue of being so popular while proposing such a radical action in the world's most powerful country.

Frigidmagi and I have been joking around about him being the "theocracy now" candidate since he announced his campaign.
We were only joking, we knew he was bad but not this bad.

Well, I'm hoping that he's dumb to think that he can say something like that without major backlash.Darth Wong wrote:Huckabee isn't the dumbest person in the world; he's the worst person in the world. It seems he's starting to creep the shit out of secular right-wingers as well. The Republikan Party is either going to come apart at the seams, or it will complete it's transformation into the American Taliban. There is no third possibility now.Nephtys wrote:I'd like to think this creeps the shit out of almost all moderates. Which is a bloody good thing. Trying to look on the bright side of this, its more ammunition to throw in the face of assholes who insist the coutry is FOUNDED on fundy beliefs. Afterall, Hucka-bonehead wouldn't need to change the constitution if it truly were the theocratic document other fundy morons think it is.

I'm over Huckabee. I had hope for him, but I'll be damned if I vote for a theocrat.

Speaking as a secular right-winger...it's been creeping the hell out of me for awhile, but yes, this is profoundly scary.Patrick Degan wrote:It seems he's starting to creep the shit out of secular right-wingers as well. What, is he going to rewrite the Bill of Rights to take away freedom of religion and freedom of speech? Is freedom of choice next? If so, freedom from fear is likely to follow.

Well, well, well. From one theocrat to another? God told Bush to attack Iraq, but what did God tell Huck-a-bee? I guess we'd better not to figure that out, especially by the way of social experiment.

Sure, he doesn't have that great of an economic policy. And his plan for Iraq is horrendous. But I figured I'd vote for him for no other reason than to break down an altar to Richard Dawkins. And besides that, why would I listen to "the scientists" position on political issues. What do they know about politics anyway?

Would it be wishful thinking to hope that Huckingbutt's statement can be used to put him on trial for sedition?

Bill Maher called him out on this on Leno Tuesday night. Most of the crowd and Leno seemed taken aback that he would dog a front-runner (Maher outright called him a religious fanatic). How dare you mock a popular person who we will collectively turn on once he loses another caucus!

I dunno, I think I'd rather Huckabee than Guliani if I had to choose from the lesser of two evils.
