It should be remembered that the success in Anbar and elsewhere has basically come about because the US has OK'ed the existence of paramilitary ethnic militias paid by, and even trained by the US. We're basically going in two directions at once; saying the central authority and army is where everyone in Iraq should place their loyalty while also saying its ok to have your own local militia.

As for the Surge? No, didn't do anything that adding more armed personnel wouldn't have done. Plus some of the success has been because the people that were aimed at...were mass murdered. Thus less casualities.

Honestly, the truly most fucked up part? Bushie and gang want to search for a NEW LEGACY. Yes, they want to leave on some bizarre high note, and hope the public worldwide forgets about that whole Iraq thingie.
