Do we have any anti-UN loonies here?

Post by Guardsman Bass »

First off, although I think the UN is quite incompetent, I do not think it is its fault. I think its the fault of the member nations; they are simply too protective of their sovereignty to give it any real independent power, and in the US's case, they justify it by saying they don't want to be ruled by unelected bureaucrats.

There goes my rant

But since you put it that way...

Okay, fine. The UN would be just dandy if it weren't for the member nations.

Although that's kinda like saying England would be cool if it weren't for all the English. Japan would be great if it weren't for all those dang Japanese folk. Washington, D.C. would be great if it weren't for all the politicians...

The United Nations Organisation is not only unaccountable, it is also grossly corrupt and ineffective. It accomplishes nothing of real value, and serves only to drain money and resources from its member states, while serving its own extremist Leftist goals. The UNO serves itself, and no other entity; a more effective UNO is quite a frightening idea.

Remember that the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) held three votes in the United Nations General Assembly; and for some peculiar reason, the USSR appointed the UN official responsible for oversight of United Nations "Peacekeeping" forces. This was, of course, the same USSR that established the Gulag archipelago, and created the Committee for State Security (KGB).

The UNO is an extraneous entity; it serves no legitimate purpose, and offers nothing that cannot be more effectively and more efficiently obtained through direct diplomacy. Like the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), the UNO is not what it is popularly believed to be, being neither effective nor beneficial.

Well, being a proponent of world government, I think the UN is on the right track.

I said I think it, not that I know it, genius. I'm not an employee of the UN; I don't have to defend their actions...I just gave an opinion, is all.

If you bothered to read my post you'd know I asked for reasons as to why you think the UN is doing good. That is of course assuming you actually base your opinions on observation and thought, like most of the rest of us...

Er, if you seriously think that most people vote based on height and hair I can only feel sorry for you. Now if you said a lot of people vote based on party, I'd believe that.

Depends on what religion you're talking about. Regardless, your points have no bearing in the discussion anyways...

Yeah, actually, I do base my opinions on fact, but I don't really have to share them with you if I don't want to. It is my experience that with this particular topic, nobody changes sides, so I really don't feel like arguing about it. Forgive me for revealing my opinion.

Count me on among the Anti-UN Loonies.

So, what are the advantages of the UN?
- They attempt to be a One World Government.... or is this an Disadvantage.
- An organization for all nations to talk to each other
- And organization to attempt world peace, global education, the good of mankind....

What are the Disadvantages of the UN?
- Gross Corruption
- Bureaucratic as hell
- Ineffective (as in bureaucratic)
- The Majority Rules, resulting in some serious problems.. Like SUDAN on the Human Rights Committee!!! :x
- They publish useless documents... They are only shuffling paper...

And I worked three months at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so I do have some insight to the UN.

Ok, short;
I dislike the UN. I do not request its destruction, but I do request that it stays like it is now; no more power to the UN

what I meant was if there were any real wackos, not people who dislike the UN for its corruption, etc. I mean the lunatics who think it the government of the Anti-Christ and so forth; i.e. right-wingers.

I didn't really care about the UN. The Europeans have always been the biggest supporters of the UN, and its policies reflect Europes policies. As an American the UN was an annoying, yet tolorable, waste of money in the past, however with the dawn of the ICC (and things similiar) the UN has become a Constitutional infringement. The UN can continue wasting Europe's money, but now that it stands directly opposed to American law I view it as a dangerous entity unworthy of American support.

Where did you get that all "right wingers" are wackos and lunatics? Is that just your personal opinion.

FYI: Right-wingers are just normal people, just like you and me. They are not lunatic.
Most right-wing people I know are people with a normal job but with strong opinions which they defend vigorously and which they tend to talk about in public and without any care of what other people think. :)

For some reason, if you have strong opionions on politics/morals/justics, you get branded right wing :D Usually by those Leftist pacifist pansies

I myself are right-wing, if you want to know the truth.

And please, right-wing does NOT mean that I am an Extreme Neo-nazi Fascist. I voted Liberal.
