God yes. I played a couple of games when I got home from work today (PS Stark, i'm actually playing ), and people who don't notice q-menu pings are WORTHLESS. I was playing as armour, which I don't usually do but NO-ONE else was doing it, and despite some early success capping points I proceeded to get raped by air. I was constantly dropping markers (usually along the lines of FUCKING CHRIST NEED ANTI-AIR RIGHT FUCKING NOW), and no-one responded. We lost that game.Stark wrote:You mean 'too stupid'. I notice most of the pings when I'm desperately microing infantry. I never miss one when I'm using air, because it's so easy. People who 'don't notice' the q-pings are, by default, worthless players. ESPECAILLY when they're backup players. If someone says 'need anti air' or 'need artillery', people who don't notice contribute nothing.
And I thought I was bad at this game, but after seeing one guy with a couple of HAA defending his SINGLE HEAVY TANK THAT WASN'T EVEN NEAR THE FRONT LINE, i've decided that there is hope for me yet.
Yeah, I've played plenty of games where support players will spawn a heavy arty and 3-4 heavy air, and then just sit them there. They hang the entire team out to dry so they can fire their one largely useless gun (ps, if you clear a point but nobody can get to it due to lack of air defence you wasted your time) and they even keep them in their original formation, so a single TA strike takes them out. I fucking hate those guys, because the map will be lit up with 'need anti-air' pings and they just don't fucking care.
THEN THEY WHINGE WHEN THE TEAM LOSES. They say 'I did my job lol'.

I am some variation of my username here, but since I get booted from Massgate for little apparent reason in the middle of almost every round I play (except the ones where I do poorly) I'm not around much until I either figure out some workaround or Massive fixes their shit (as I don't have this problem with other games?).

I have determined that heavy arty is useful for early-game area denial, but after that I think I prefer to rely on TA. You really have to know the map to know where to deny, anyway. For example, on that snowy mountain tug-of-war map, heavy arty is god early game.

Armor is a fun role to play after you've been ground-pounding with infantry all the time. Mainly because the speed of my armor allows me to escape dedicated TA attacks that would slaughter my infantry. Also, HEAT rounds work surprisingly well against infantry. Gee, I wonder if the "High Explosive" part of the name has anything to do with that.
Best care anywhere.

IIRC, I was guessing on Bucher. You're more likely to be right.Stark wrote:Um, isn't BaronBucher Lonestar?

Are you saying that to me? Because I know full well what sort of damage a well commanded infantry force can bring about. Artillery is the biggest killer of infantry in the game. Via support or TA. So it's only natural that I should be a little tired of the constant threat of bombardment?JointStrikeFighter wrote:What do you expect; Infantry are useless don't you know?CaptHawkeye wrote:Armor is a fun role to play after you've been ground-pounding with infantry all the time. If I play as armor for a long time I bet i'll get tired of choppers too.

Cearly someones sarcasm detector is broken. That or you havnt come across the hordes of players who complain infantry is useless. [PS; its not]CaptHawkeye wrote:Are you saying that to me? Mine? Apparently it is. But yeah, I have encountered the morons who can't figure out how to properly command infantry. Their are so many of them that their is pretty much ALWAYS a chronic shortage of players in the infantry role in any server. Despite infantry players regularly being the top scores in a game. That's what I love about the role, it has the complete opposite mindset of support. "Only the competent need apply".JointStrikeFighter wrote:Cearly someones sarcasm detector is broken. I just enable always show health in the options which also shows unit types. Still a horrible air player, due to failure to pay attention, and players using medium helos in the air to air role.
Not too great w/ armor, getting killed by other heavy tanks more often than I should, unless I outnumber them (and most of the time, it becomes a slugging match where at some point someone uses TA on me since I forget to constantly move).

Medium choppers work best in hordes (at least 5), it's enough to kill both enemy choppers and tanks pretty decently after that.Pu-239 wrote:I just enable always show health in the options which also shows unit types. I thought mediums couldn't kill tanks? I've usually seen them in the air to air role where I've been on the recieving end.

Individually the guns don't do too much damage on tanks, but 5-6 mediums can reduce the armor of even heavies pretty decently. This does help tremendously when coordinating with ground units, gives that extra oomph while keeping the enemy choppers away.Pu-239 wrote:I thought mediums couldn't kill tanks? Mediums can kill light tanks, but anything better is so slow you'll be there all day. All day you're not providing mobile air cover for the team everywhere else. If you want to kill tanks, get a heavy as well. I never go 100% one way on choppers: even if you've only got one medium, the stinger trail is enough to send most air guys running. The only way to get a decent score with mediums is to hunt choppers, not waste hours plinking away at tanks (and getting driven off by local HAA or killed by A2A).montypython wrote:Individually the guns don't do too much damage on tanks, but 5-6 mediums can reduce the armor of even heavies pretty decently. If the enemy has swarms of mediums, change to support for a few minutes and rape them. Killing choppers with choppers is really inefficient - the only advantage is deployment speed. A team with good air defence will make it very difficult for your air players to achieve anything: part of the reason why a good armour player destroys HAA wherever they find it.

Denying airspace from the enemy and aerial sweeps usually buys time for my guys to get into position, which enables them to smack enemy ground units. Surprisingly, medium AA has been worse on my choppers than Heavy AA in some recent games.Stark wrote:Mediums can kill light tanks, but anything better is so slow you'll be there all day.
