Makes sense to me; a pod is more likely to be stationary when there is an abundant food supply. When they've got enough food, there's less stress and competition, and thus aggressiveness becomes a hindrance.

but isn't it the nomadic pods that follow big ships out to sea?
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?

No. Last I checked, most of the ship following happens in shallow water. So do, oddly enough most ship wrecks.

It is worth pointing out that it is probably the coastal dolphins that are non-nomadic and more stationary due to better food supplies along coast lines.

So for future reference: stick to 'civilized' dolphins rather than roaming packs. Sounds like good advice to me.
