I'm going to try and get a burqa as perfect cover, since I'm not sure if Guy Fawkes masks are legal or not. A scientologist attacking an apparently muslim female? PR DISASTER!

Hell yes. Even though we haven't got a local branch here (they split off from the main church in '83 and were apparently sued into oblivion), there will be some Anonymous helping to spread the word on the 10th. This is an excellent website to use for coordinating with fellow Anonymous. At present nearly 1250 have registered on the website, with locations of churches and events posted as well, with useful information like addresses and IRC channels when you click the tag. There's also a fantastic forum here with suggestions for how to behave at these protests along with even more ways to coordinate with other protesters.

"We must unite the chans" is an awesome corruption of a phrase indeed. Is SA down with any of this, out of interest? If SA and ebaum and the chans were working towards the same end... the internet geek in me feels like it's an epic moment.

Also, someone should probably tell the media that to be "anonymous" is to be part of the easiest in-joke ever and find/post some wanking material.

Yes, SA is in on it as well. SA, Ebaum's, YTMND, and even Digg and Slashdot have all had run-ins with scientology and been threatened with lawsuits.

While Lowtax and the mods at SA are definitely hands-off with the whole thing (I don't blame them), the megathread in the GBS forum is over 130 pages long, with links to even more resources like flyers and court documents. So yeah, SA is in on it too. There's even a few radio hosts that have thrown in their lot with Anonymous, along with Mark Bunker. He is the man behind XenuTV and has recently been dubbed the Wise Beard Man or simply the Bearded One.

It seems the scifags have struck back. Insurgency wiki is down. Does anyone have a list of the designated raid/protest locations for the tenth? I want to see if there's one in my area. Also, where would I get a guy fawlkes mask in the U.S.? I don't want to be ID'ed by the scientologists since they do nasty shit to people.

Encyclopedia Dramatica's 'chanology' page is functioning as a de-facto mirror. As for masks, check a local costume store, but again be sure its ok for you to wear a mask in public. The Orlando crew had to wear hats/glasses instead.

Encyclopedia Dramatica has relevant info under Project Chanology, but you may want to be careful about the masks. Some cities have laws against wearing masks in public. Otherwise eBay is a good source as any.

A quick question. How are anon pulling off these DDOS attacks without getting caught? I know they use tools to suck up bandwith (The last one I saw on partyvan before it went down was Low-Orbit-Ion-Cannon

) but can't they be tracked back to the computer used?

If you had bothered to actually read the Wikipedia link provided, you would have the answer to your question, which is that the people involved in the operation where convicted and sent to federal prison. Fortunately there is no nebulously defined law banning "infiltration of the government", so the individuals involved were tried on charges specific to the actions they committed, convicted on the basis of the available evidence and sent to prison for those crimes.

This also happened in the 1970's, which explains its absence from the headlines of today.

Depends on the setup. IPs can only be tracked inasmuch as their activity can be logged. DOSing is easy to detect and foil, because it's patently obvious that there are only one or a few sources (which are easily blocked).

DDOSing can come from thousands of sources, and it can be very difficult to pick the DDOS out from normal traffic. But let's say you've correctly picked out the offenders and blocked them. All they have to do is shut off their modems, wait a while, and turn them back on. They'll acquire a different IP address and can go right back to fucking your shit up. At that point, you have to repeat the detections process and start blocking IPs anew, or blocking entire ranges of IPs. But then, you run the risk of blocking legitimate traffic!

They aren't getting caught because there are things that let you mask your IP address, and it's very very difficult to distinguish legitimate IP traffic from IPs that are attempting to perform a denial of service attack on your system. They even go into this on some of the news stories covering the issue. . .

Amazon.com and eBay both have them for sale. They're not really that hard to find.

I have a few suppliers I use for my business that have tons of masks. They're all available in bulk at wholesale prices. If this goes over big and a second one starts up, I'd happily buy a bunch and donate them to the cause. Scientology is the pinnacle of loserdom; they deserve all of this and then some.

I'm pretty sure they've got something planned for Sacramento on the 10th. Check out the ED Chanology page for a contact, they'll definitely buy from you if the masks are legal to wear.
