It is a Mando wanking fanfic.

Jesus fucking Christ. I could only laugh and shake my head when I read that Jaina was probably going Mando. But this crap about her having to learn from Boba Fett because he "knows shit that Jedi don't know" just pisses me off.

I said it before, and now I'm even more convinced that I'm right. KT and her fanboys have a really fucked up view about what SW is. Isn't it great to know that the Jedi, the fucking focus of the actual movies, are now being made to look less capable, less cunning, and less honorable than some made-up fanwank NOBODIES like the Mandalorians? This is truly SW at its finest. :wanker:

This doesn't read like bad fanfic. It reads like that dumb Vin Diesel movie XXX, where a government spy agency needed to turn to a fucking Xtreme sports punk because he's "different" and has badass skillz.

When rolling my eyes at Mandalorian wank, I personally just like to laugh a little inside when I think about how casually Mace Windu killed Jango Fett. Easiest thing in the world, lasted all of 30 seconds or so.

And then of course you've got bad-ass Boba Fett getting taken out accidentally by a flailing blind man, never mind being unable to subdue Luke Skywalker whatsoever.

The only time the supreme galactic badass ever lasted a while against a Jedi in the film was vs Obi-Wan, and that was with the aid of a jetpack, a rocket launcher, Slave I, and Obi-Wan trying to capture him.

That reminds me - has any EU work ever addressed what must be Boba Fett's supreme embarassment at what happened on Tatooine? Or do they just not mention it?

I'm waaaaay behind in the EU universe since I last read an EU novel (which was one of the X-wing books). What is the current status of the SW universe? I know Chewie is dead and the Vong turd but what is the status of the Republic and the Empire? What happened to Luke, Leia, Han, Anakin, R2 and C3PO? Is Jacen a Sith or Dark Jedi?

The New Republic renamed itself a horribly corny and fan service name and remained just as ineffective and essentially identical, but now the Empire is somesort of member of it. It has become corrupt and somewhat authoritarian under the junta rule by Jacen (as head of a secret police) and an admiral (head of the military), causing many powers to breakoff and form an oppositionist group called the Confederation (real original, eh?). Anakin died during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Luke is now officially Grand Master of the Jedi, but they keep writing excuses to keep him from ending the contrived crises they invent. Jacen is a Sith Lord, and he killed Mara Jade as well as the lawful Chief of State.

That's an interesting question, because the EU has split into two time periods that are getting explored. You have the Legacy Era Novels (The shit Travissty does) and then you have the Legacy Era Comics, which takes place nearly a hundred years after the novels. All of the major characters except R2 are presumably dead, the Empire comes back with a new Emperor and the help of the Sith (though this time the Empire has it's own group of Force Users which take the place of the Royal Guard), who then betray the Empire and take over. The Jedi Order has been massacred, and the fate of the galaxy rests with Cade Skywalker, an ex-Jedi bounty bunter and pirate who uses drugs to keep the Force Spirits of his ancestors away, and doesn't want to be a Jedi. He also has some pretty good lines:

"Why do you use those deathsticks?"
"They keep you away."
―Luke Skywalker's Force ghost and Cade

"Ah, shut up and kill something!"
―Cade Skywalker to Jariah Syn while being attacked by Darth Talon

"I could heal that hurt. Pour the Force into the place where the red lines intersect. Or -- and here's a new idea -- maybe I could explode that point. Kill you. Interesting idea. Should we try?"
―Cade to Darth Talon

Yeah, I think in the novel where Fett kills the Sabacc and escapes(forgot the title), there are some lines having him "watch the video over and over, only to see Han knocking him off by accident"... but he's more angry at Han's luck then embarrassed^^

You know what's gonna' happen yes?

The Solo Child will totally fall for Fett. Yes. Fuck anyone who tells you otherwise, you KNOW, in your soul, that i'm right.

When Jaina becomes Jaina Solo-Fett, i just want everyone to know i called it.

You, sir, are an perverted, demented invidual capable of terrible atrocities against literature and storytelling. Most likely you also have a secret fascination with posters about Mandalorians and have developed an intense dislike of all Jedi who do not, in fact, obsess over the honor of the Mandalorians.

Therefore excellently qualified to be an EU writer. May you rot in Hell forever for saying aloud that blasphemy.

Well, that's not as bad as some of the other bullshit - after all, Han Solo and Boba Fett do have a long history. It's not like randomly throwing two characters together for no good reason.

^ Well, the worst part is it pretty much makes Boba Fett come off as a perverted old man.

Well, that and Traviss doesn't have good ideas, as a rule. She already allows her fangirl crush on Temeura Morrison (sp?) to come out with every female character.

...nngh. As sexy as Boba is, I hadn't thought of just how old he would be.
Maybe he could clone himself again and pass on the name, Phantom- or Batman- or DPRoberts-style? That'd satisfy the fans without being too stupid, I guess.

I was almost about to start reading this series, but having never read any of KT's books, I don't think I want to even take the chance. Is it possible to only read Allston's and Denning's books and get the storyline? Or are the latest Travissties unavoidable if you want to know the story?

You can read the Travissties and skip all the parts that have Boba Fett in them. Although, as I said above, Jaina will probably join him on the quest in the next book, but as for the first two, the Fett storyline in Bloodlines came together with the rest in a contrived way, and in Sacrifice, it didn't come together at all--it was like two separate books. This will save you from reading about a third of each book.

If you read Betrayal and Bloodlines, you'll get an idea of the best and the worst of the series, and then can decide.

Unfortunately, the quality of the Thrawn Trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn duology aren't coming back. Not in any post-ROTJ EU, anyway. Fury by itself is a good book, but it can't make LOTF into a good series, anymore than Star by Star, Traitor, and the Enemy Lines duology did so for the NJO. In fact, the only thing published since Hand of Thrawn in the post-ROTJ era that isn't tainted by its own mediocrity or that of its series is Survivor's Quest, whereas in other eras we had:

Labyrinth of Evil
Dark Lord: the Rise of Darth Vader
Clone Wars comics
Empire comics
Rebellion comics
Allegiance
KOTOR
KOTOR comics
Medstar duology
Darth Bane novels
Death Star

Each of those is much better than most post-ROTJ EU.

P.S. You know, the KOTOR era seems much more fertile for Mandalorian wanking... Well, I don't like it even then, but at least those Mandalorians aren't KT's ideal male specimens... yet.

Clone Wars comics
If you like Quinlan Vos-wank, do read them. There's some good, standalone stories here and there, but overall, too much of one character's pointless back-and-forth between the Light and Dark Sides bring this whole arc down.

Just so you know, Sabacc is the game that Lando and Han played when the Falcon changed hand. The SARLACC is the thing that "ate" Boba Fett on Tattooine.

This can easily be chalked up to Obi-Wan's defensive style of fighting, which is mention a few times in the books, and not necessarily JFs Ultra Mandalorian skills.
