I couldn't help but feel for both of the players on the opposite team that actually put in an appearance. It almost seems like they had split up the points between them and each player was defending a different one :P
The highlarious part is that neither Stark nor I lost ANY units at all in that round.

Hey, does the WiC demo allow multiplayer? If so, I'll pick it up a little later and see if I can find any of your guys online.

Hey, just got the demo, looks like my old beta account is still on there. And I even got a medal for being a long-time massgate member!

Oh, Zak HATES that. I've got the pre-order one too... it's FOREVER OUT OF HIS REACH! :)

The demo is probably seriously limited in maps (airbase, hometown and farmland I think) so you'll have trouble finding a server.

That's so weird, I had to start a brand new account and couldn't use my old one.

I've only got the Seaside map in the demo, and looks like only two demo servers.

OK, so in several rounds of playing, I saw a whole bunch of stuff. Light chopper swarms, light tank swarms, the "give me pointz!" guy, etc, etc. Chased a couple support players all along their deployment zone with my tanks, that was fun. The sad thing is, I was doing better than almost everyone else, with the exception of a few obviously veteran players that all played USSR. Yeah, we got stomped pretty badly. I managed to get second a couple times and first once for best Armor player though.

Amusingly in a game the other day we saw a possible use for a truck swarm: an infantry player can get a dozen or so, and they block fire and cause traffic jams in chokepoints. Largely useless, but in certain situations there might be a humourous role. Having your dash for a point blocked by 14 trucks is extremely irritating. :)

That was freaking highlarious; so many trucks, so little effectiveness.

I join a game.
Get a bunch of air ready.
Get units dropped.
Get autobalanced to opposing side.
Get units dropped again.
Other team wins, and I still have killed nothing.

Damnit!

PROTIP: Don't join servers with imbalanced teams and 2 minutes left on the clock. If you do, don't leave: just keep playing.

Or just play servers with no auto-balance. Zak and Hotfoot and I were on some crazy server on a hopelessly stacked-by-clanners team a few days ago.

It was 6 on 6 when I joined. A minute after I joined, one of the other players left, triggering the autobalance. Then the team I left won by total domination.

I stayed for the next round. Top armor.

I forget who I was playing with tonight, but jesus the lag was terrible. Sorry I performed like shit, but the entire game was stuttering up until the other team nuked us, which is when my computer's insides melted.

Currently trying to set up a dedicated server on my Linux box using WINE. For some inane reason they decided to lock up the EXE using Securom  , then for some reason the *server* makes directX calls which WINE doesn't like when run over a VNC connection. Who the fuck needs fancy graphics on a *server*?

Can't run a dedicated server on my desktop since I reboot all the time switching between Linux and Windows. Anyone have a windows box they leave up all the time or a Linux box that isn't headless and wiling to host? I'd like to try new maps, but this isnt' really. I'd really like to play custom maps- the same ones over and over again do get slightly boring.

It's listed as "KanoneZiel's Server" or somesuch

Nevermind, got it working, don't know about the performance though since it's running on a PIII-733 w/ 600+MB of RAM.

PM me for admin access.

This is a fucking kludge, they do need to get that Linux server out.

EDIT: Changed server name to SDN WiC Server- dunno if it'll work, had some random guy join for a few seconds, but while setting it up tonight couldn't see it up.

Success!

Switched router back to DD-WRT- It Just Works. Too lazy to dick around with IPTables commands because the web interface is too stupid to do them. OpenWRT is a lot of complexity w/ little gain.

If anyone wants custom maps, I'll upload them to the server and stick them in. Post direct links please. I'm pretty busy this weekend and the next week, so I won't be doing anything more than giving out the admin password and maybe changing a few config settings.

Again, no idea if server is fast enough once 16 people join..... we'll see. Still pissed as hell that I have to bother running a full real x-server just to run this thing, as well as a hacked version of WINE. What kind of idiot puts copy protection on these things when it's freely distributed anyway, and decides to put graphics checks on a console server app?

Don't stay in one place too long. That's asking for TA to get called on you. Also, don't drive in a predictable fashion. Again, asking for TA or artillery. Don't worry about killing your opposite number, but rather kill whatever is actually dangerous for your teammate(s). IOW: Tanks kill AA, AA kills Air, Air kills tank. If you're actually forced to kill an enemy tank with your own, hit the flank or rear, not the front. Works a lot better. When using TA yourself, predict where the opponent will be. Try to keep your units alive. * level units work better than private level units.

Pu-239, you might want to mess with the config of the server. It works fine, but there's unlikely to be many players there at a time so you'd wnat either 'few player mode' or bots to round out teams. Even just 'bots make 3 vs 3' or something: 1v1 in normal mode it's impossible to play. I squashed Zak's infantry with tanks so he shots me with choppers. :)
