I hope iron man will be a genuine hero in the movie instead of the fascist dick he's become in the comics.

Also, why did he use a rocket on that tank? Does he have his repulsor beams in the movie?

Perhaps they're developed later in the film or they have been developed, but he's having trouble getting them to work full-time; we'll know for certain in three months.

Some people bitched and moaned about Robert Downey Jr for the part of Tony Stark but I thought it was perfect. Stark is not some super hero with muscles or particularly good looking. He's a recovering alcoholic millionaire playboy.

I always thought Tom Selleck was perfect for the role - down to Stark's mustache but Downey Jr. has got some serious acting chops drug issues aside and looks like he's perfect for the role. A cock sure ass hole who suddenly discovers that underneath it all he has a conscience.

And the Iron Man armor looks perfect. I can already tell just from the trailers who the main villain will be - Stane and his Iron Monger war suit. Cool.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is the worst casting decision since Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Which is a tremendous shame considering that Robert Downy Jr was a brilliant choice.

Nick Fury was introduced when Samuel L. Jackson was fifteen years old. Whatever his merits as an actor now, Jackson was not particularly well-known in 1963.

The Ultimate version is a pointless hijack of the character's name; he's not even a World War II veteran, which is a bit like calling a character Bruce Wayne but giving him a completely different background, appearance, and origin. Ultimately he raises the very same problem this film does: Namely, that casting Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is an exercise in abysmally poor judgment.

Then again, if Nick Fury is large part of the story and he's nothing more then "Tuff Black man!"...it might matter.

As is the TV spot didn't change anything for me. I was going to see it before, and I'm glad the first villain isn't the goddamn hokey chinese stereotype with magic rings, Mandarin.

That anyone is taking time to worry about Fury is a good thing. There is every indication from the trailers that shifting Stark's origin from Viet Nam to Afghanistan is a perfectly workable transition, to say nothing of the generally positive reaction to Downy's portrayal of Stark (as it's been seen so far, at any rate). Based solely on the trailers so far, it seems they've done an excellent job of capturing his somewhat arrogant personality without stripping him of his charisma and charm. If all one has to complain about are minor details, the big picture probably looks good enough.

Reportedly the Mandarin will feature prominently in the series without necessarily appearing directly (probably similar to how SPECTRE was hinted at in Casino Royale). In any case, he will probably not be appearing with a large yellow "M" emblazoned on his shirt.

Just from the glimpses of other mechanical things shown in the trailers, perhaps this first film borrows some elements from Armor Wars, where proliferation of Stark's new tech occurs?

Frankly, I can't imagine that casting Nick Fury with anyone else would matter. If you're afraid that it's going to boil down to the 'tuff black man' trope, then that's going to be as much as a fault as the writing as it is the actor. Conversely, I actually think that Jackson is strong actor; he has an imposing screen presence, and pretty fine range of capability. He's not the world's best actor by any means ... but then again, Nick Fury isn't exactly the most inspiring or interesting Marvel character out there.

Though because I'm interested, who would you prefer to see in the role, Pubilus?

I sorely hope not. But if they are going to implement him in the way you are describing, that would be a far step up from many of his appearances.
