Easily my favorite episode thus far this season. Good writing for Carter for a change, including a pure Carter moment WRT Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Good McKay/Carter interaction as well, and Keller was a good addition to the mix.

Very good overall in my opinion, though kind of late for a big Carter episode, especially with the recent news and all. Fortunately Jewel Staite has been able to fit right in, and this was a good one for her.
Keller and McKay seeming to hook up at the end works pretty well, too; unexpected but not totally random and just for the sake of it. Interesting to see if/how they go with that.
Did there seem to be a lot of content in this episode for anybody else? For some reason it felt like an extended 90 minutes even though it was just the regular 60...

Huh. I had the opposite reaction, I felt like I was missing a good 20 minutes or something. The mineshaft -> back home, everybody's safe, yay! transition was particularly jarring.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Did there seem to be a lot of content in this episode for anybody else? That kind of end wrap-up transition is typical. I just mean it seemed like they spend a whole hell of a long time in that room trying different ways to get out and talk/argue. I first thought the 15 minute mark was more like around the 30 minute mark.
I'm not at all saying it was dull, just that a lot of stuff seemed to happen for a regular episode. It'd be kinda cool if they could do more like it.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to go with "blandly predictable" on this one. Three people get trapped in a room together. One of them is a doctor, so you know someone's getting injured. Since there's generally not a huge amount of plot going on with 3 people stuck in a room, you know antics are going to ensue (which I will admit were not bad. Humor IS a good thing, but I felt we did a lot of that with the mini-drone episode). And eventually everyone we know will get out safe and sound.
The only real progression I can think of is the Keller/McKay angle, and MAYBE the fact that they'll come back to explain what the Genni were mining there.
I only watched the episode once and I got kind of confused as to why they were going in the first place. They needed a negotiator because the townspeople wouldn't move their settlement due to the quakes, and they wanted Atlantis to give them shit in exchange for saving their own lives? Is that what they were doing? I feel like I missed something.

It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.
Another horrible filler in my eyes, it barely even added character development. The doctor is a whore now or something, did they forget she just kissed Ronon, and she knows Rodney proposed not too long ago. Carter still conveniently forgets she's a scientist though she was more proactive this time at least. I laughed at Rodney's grapple misses but the other comedy bits were really predictable culture references. How many fillers can you have that don't even hint at a main story arc, this is getting brutal.

I have enjoyed the last couple of episodes, heck I love the show overall, but this one was just really bad.
It was a fanfic. McKay and too women stuck, asking about who'd they do, bashing Zelenka, trying to get the girls to strip...
And why was McKay throwing the grapple? He has a veteran spec ops officer, and then him...cause he wants to show off and be manly? Cause its funny? Then he can't notice he's wedged it in a gas valve?
And Keller brings up the bar bet strategy and they stop to make a mock up of the plan to play with?
Carter has done some good solo work, liked when she was trapped with the injured O'Neil, McKay was good trapped under the ocean, and Keller was decent stuck with Ronon a few episodes back. So I really have to place the blame on the guy who wrote this episode.
There may have been some good parts to this episode, but it was mostly weak or painful.

I thought i was obvious Rodney was showing of for keller. he spent a lot o the beginning of the episode trying to convince her he was as impressive as Sam.
She sort of De-balled him when she took the grapple and threw it perfectly three times in a row.
kind of an allegory for the whole Stargate Atlantis series though. "No seriously our show is just as good as SG-1 was. We do cool stuff too."
Sam should get a lemming award for continually climbing on one contraption after another trying to get out. i thought she'd be injured after the first fall.
This episode WAS more realistic in that they kept trying stuff that didn't work. I was seriously wondering how they planned to throw a grappling hook up onto the ground that had just caved in and brought them there in the first place, it clearly was not stable.
Rodney and Keller are both doing the same thing I think. Rodney considers Sam the perfect woman but she is unreachable, then theres keller whose... eh...
Then kellr is looking at Ronan, the Epitome of manhood (He doesn't do pushups, he pushes the earth DOWN) and while he is obviously more reachable, shes decided to adopt Rodney.
They still ahven't found the Sam/jack repalcement, or the Daniel Vala Chemistry, but clearly they are trying hard.
All that being said that is the least practical design for a mine since I saw Lord of the Rings, Who Builds These Things??

Keller & Mckay seems a better match than Ronan & Keller mainly because Ronan has been setup as a pure 'kill, purge, destroy' character. Such a setup wont work too well for a relationship arc and I'm not sure I can really envision the actor being able to pull it off in a way that will be 'dramatic'.
Mckay is easily the attraction of the show because of his character much like the EMH in Voyager so having a relationship arc with him is more open to creativity from the writers. Obviously the writers are trying to find another romance pairing focus like SG-1 has managed so Keller & McKay are on the possible list.
Not that I would consider the end much a complete indication the writers are going in that direction. It is entirely possible they will go back to her and Ronan later.
Other than that, another filler, another bunch of non-relevant crap and lameish humour. I have to say that if a season worth of fillers is the price for a few special effect episodes then it isnt worth it. I suppose the writers might be doing this so as to create a proper timeframe for the 'new threat' to kick in.
According to 'Evil' Weir they were going to be doing something so afterall these fillers they will hopefully have the proper setup and time to have done for a good few episodes of heavy arc work till the season cliffhanger.

Honestly, I don't really see much of a development between Keller and McKay. Seems to me that they're getting closer (ie: FRIEND close) and she took the opportunity to get McKay out of the lab for longer than five minutes and actually RELAX around a female of his species. (Seriously, was I the only one face palming when he was gittering?)

Yeah. I wouldn't automatically conclude that she wants to hump him.

hmm now that you put it all up here I'm starting to think keller's a whore.
Given hr portrayal as a small town girl type i can see it, but I'm thinking shes getting type cast here. Haylee (Sp. ?) on firefly was a wee bit promiscuous as well, though she came of as a naive unpolished girl.
I really wasn't buying the Ronan sensitivty thing. First he is all touchy feely with keller about her "Problems" and waht not, then he is stoically there for Shepherd in his time of need.
What will we see next? Ronan painting??
Rodney really is awkward, I went to check my laundry when he started blabbering to sam and keller and when I got back he was just finishing. I kind of want to see Dr. lee from the SGC take him out on the town, because we all know from "Bounty" that lee is a pimp.

I think it is a bit harsh to be calling Keller a whore on the basis of her having one drink with Rodney...
Even if she is going to go for Rodney it isnt as if Ronan and her got together so she is perfectly free to do so. Assuming she is interested in Mckay after this I would be more observant of the fact she is attracted to men she finds herself stuck with in strange situations.
A.K.A she got stuck in a room with Ronan with the thought they might die and had the heart to heart with Ronan followed by mushiness.
Then we have her being stuck in a mine shaft with the thought of impending doom once again and this time she seems attracted to McKay so the general impression I get is she has that kind of naive notion of being the damsel in distress with her 'savior's being the white knight she falls for fairytale. It reminds me exactly of what she was like in Firefly with her being soft on the captain and the doctor. I suspect and element of type casting is going on here and if that is the case then it is fairly obvious who she is going to go for.
Not that I think it is really a bad thing since I like Mckay better than Ronan and I just cant picture Ronan being able to pull it off more than McKay's bumbling ways. At least McKay has actually been personalised over the show. Ronan has remained the same bland character with no characterisation so it is really late to pull it out now I think.

Keller seems to be a professional sidekick, she's been trapped off world with Tey'la as they were hunted, trapped in a room with Ronan, and trapped with McKay and Carter. its actually not a bad way to build her character credibility attaching her as the sidekick to the main characters. inevitably she will be trapped with Shepherd, but she has been an increasingly active participant in problem solving, maybe she'll end up as a regular instead of a recurring.
Your right it is a little harsh to call her character a whore. For all we know this isn't romantic interest, maybe she will become his big sister figure to provide romantic advice/ teach Rodney drinking games.
BTW I tried the trick and none of my friends could solve it so i got like six free beers.

Its kind of crappy having three blatant filler episodes in a row(Don't we have three active ships that can completely wipe out the Wraith Hiveships). Although I did think this one was much more enjoyable of the three.
I wonder how far we are from SGA's 100th episode, and if we are going to get a different humor episode, or "Wormhole Xtreme:El Dorado"
