Darkstar's site is SA's Awful Link of the Day

G2k's Star Trek vs. Star Wars Tech Assessment (thanks Scott) - If I had to use two words to describe this site, I would choose "nuts" and "fucking," although not in that order. In addition, I would repeat the word "fucking" approximately 15,000 times for emphasis, as this is simply the most ridiculous and ungodly site I have ever gazed my eyes upon. Star Wars fanboys are pure evil. Star Trek fanboys are pure evil with double the grease amount. You combine these two forces together and you get what is easily the worst website I've seen in at least nine hours.
PPPS: Dear God this man is clearly insane.

I'd love to see DumbShit's face turn from the elation of perceived victory to the despair of true defeat! Such a piece!

As I pointed out elsewhere, this is not really directed at Darkstar, just vs debates in general. So really, don't laugh, we're all guilty

Dude, honestly, shut up. Don't suck the fun out of this one. VS debating is often such a hostile activity. Allow us one moment of mutual laughing.

Of course. The difference is that we know it. But Darkstar's likely to launch a whole new war against the somethingawful.co* people, or accuse Mike of "enlisting" them in his "blitzkrieg" and start ranting about Cabbage Crates coming across the 'Briney...

Perhaps he can call this one "The Battle of Britian part II".

There is nothing to laugh at in that article.

1# Vympel is right.

2# Do you have any idea how much free publicity Darkstar has gained and how many converts he will win as a result of that article?

3# Remove all the derogatory comments directed at the Vs. community in general (including the "Dear God this man is clearly insane." line, because he'd probably say the same about all of us) and what you are left with is this:
So what is all this analyzing? THE SCENE FROM "RETURN OF THE JEDI" WHEN THE AT-ST IS SMASHED BY AN EWOK LOG. You'll be pleased to know that if the Earth is ever invaded by Evil Death Star AT-STDs or whatever, we'll be able to take the bastards down with conventional M829A2 anti-armor rounds according to this website. Now I have an entirely new reason to lobby Congress for the legalization of owning Abrams tanks (besides the fact that Zack won't shut up until he either gets a tank or gets run over by a tank).
...
PPS: Also take a look at the 500,000-word essay on the horsepower of the Millennium Falcon, an article which will debunk all the myths and misconceptions you were taught in school and church regarding Han Solo's pimpmobile.
As saddened as I am to say this, reading that will give the image that Darkstar actualy knows what he is talking about, at least to someone that doesn't know better.

This is a sad day for SD.net and a victory for Darkstar (though he might not realize it).

DorkStar's reply. He seems eerily cheerful about this.
Hehe . . . yes, boys and girls, the site and the entire Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate has been officially recognized as dorky by somethingawful.co*. Thanks for that newsflash . . . we had no idea! :-) A pity they didn't bother to mention the sites of Wong and Poe which are even worse, but they did do a similar rip into Saxton's SW Technical Commentaries back in the day, so it could be said that I stand in august company. And let's face it, it's nice for the new kid on the block to get top billing in the debate. :-)
His last update about "enemy claims" is just loony. I didn't realize it was an actual war until I actually built up enough courage to actually skim through some of those pages. Pretty damn disturbing, is this what those kids in Billy Madison meant when they were talking about "loser denial?"

DANGER! DANGER MR. ANDERSON!

I'd hate to see the bill he gets nailed with when he goes WAY over his bandwith limit. :D

And of course, we all know that being SA's awful link of the day means something profound regarding debates (ie: one of the webmasters of SA is making fun of you).

Well, since we all love to watch him get mad, I guess this is good news. Though I figure just about any SW vs. ST site could qualify, so long as somebody at SA decided to make fun of it.

I also like the way he ignores the fact that SA.com ripped into him with its review in a manner that no one else suffered.

I will also add I personally find the intentional crashing of websites with DOS attacks, etc to be awfully stupid and cruel, even if the sites in question are "stupid."

Slashdot does this (though probably unintentionally, though you'd think most of the people would understand how this works by now), Fark.com, etc.

The ALOTD's are always implied to be "fodder" for the regulars who visit, to attack, mock, and put crap in their guestbooks. And SA complains when they run out of money and adspace...!

I used to read their page on a regular basis years ago, but I always disliked that part of it. They could just as easily have posted caps of the sites in question and still make fun of them to their heart's content without encouraging dirty tricks.

I am not saying don't ever link to sites, but this only encourages such behavior. Would anybody like it if SD.net crashed due to too many people visiting after getting posted at one of those sites? I think not.

That he'll gain more followers. :?

Seriously it astounds me people read through the site and go "well he's must be right, even though he's contradicted himself on multiple occasions."

Ah well, some will see him for what he is, others will latch onto him...such is the way of things.

An actual DOS attack is a criminal offense. Linking to a website, however, is perfectly reasonable; what are you supposed to do? Hide the URL even if you want to talk about the site?

Yes, I know. There's a fine line...

But, as anybody who's used the internet for a few years knows, there's ways to screw somebody over abusing something like this.

Email bombing, threats, spamming, even hacking attempts are all the kind of thing that too many people take lightly as legitimate tactics against the unsuspecting these days. This just helps to encourage such behavior.

If you put a link on a very popular site and say along the lines of "Ha ha, look at these idiots, everybody knows what to do, go pay them a visit ;)" you're bound to have problems.

I just think by now most webmasters should know better, and they do it out of mean-spiritedness more than anything.

It's just one step above posting somebody's IP or email and saying "do what you will with this information."

It's true, some people consider being "slashdotted" once to be something of an honor, but it can get expensive if you're not a powerful or wealthy server. But it's too easy a "revenge" tactic, and people justify it because they think the websites are stupid and deserve to die. These sites know that they're doing, they can just shift the blame to others.
