Torchwood S2x05: Adam (Spoilers)
T-minus 9 minutes and the like....
For those who care, BBC3 is now showing the next episode right after this one. And the next three happen to contain a member of the Jones family in Wales. And its not Tom.

I've just noticed something about the title sequence... Torchwood have somehow got their hands on a number of dalek upgraded guns. Why would the US give them such, given that they're officially an organisation dedicated to restoring the British Empire and presumably reconquering all the colonies that got away. One would hope they only got those off of UNIT or the US equivalent of Torchwood (who must surely be cooler) quite recently. Or you know, they might have used them on the Cult of Skaro...
Guess they're lucky the Cult of Skaro didn't get around to making those things isomorphic to human daleks or anything.
I quite liked that. Not as sharp as it could have been, but it was interesting nonetheless. I do wonder what exactly killed Jack's family. Worst creatures you can imagine? When he says that, I can't help but think of daleks, but as they left visible wounds, that seems unlikely.

I originally thought the killers might be the insect things that we got a quick shot of at the beginning of each episode but they seemed to appear in the trailer of next weeks episode so I assume there not.
I guess that as Jack's brother seems to be the running plot for this series that it'll be dealt with at the end of the series.

Episode 6 I quite liked that, and even find myself hoping that the very annoying Owen won't die permanantly. They missed a trick with the mature mayfly, mind. Martha (and Jack) should be able to talk to aliens some time when no one else is, assuming the Time Lord gift of translation is lasting.
Also, the wonders of TARDIS travel. Improves your immune system greatly, apparently.

I did find it interesting that apparently the TARDIS (Or time travel in general) effects the immune system by giving it an upgrade of sorts. Was that mentioned before?

Well, I just saw this one on BBC iPlayer. It's not bad s such. Just utterly utterly pointless. As far as the characters are concerned all that happened is Jack got a box with some sand in and Owen proved to be an asshole.. again.
Of course we found out so more about the characters and Jack so it was alright. I suppose. Tosh in love again with no reference to the events of "The Last Man" was annoying.
The crew seemed utterly unconcerned about losing 2 days which is freaky. I'm reminded of the Red Dwarf epiosde: "Thanks for the Memories" were they start off with the lost memories and the episode is told in flashbacks as they found out what happened. An utterly superior set-up than what we got on Torchwood.

Isn't it obvious? Her "Last Man" memories were wiped just as Gwen's memories of her and Rhys were wiped. Oh, wait, that wasn't mentioned. Oh, well - that's how I would have explained it, if anyone asked me to explain it.Crazedwraith wrote:Of course we found out so more about the characters and Jack so it was alright. I suppose. No, that's just a little wierd. What's freaky is when Jack's "I can't die (permanently)" is let out of the bag and no one seems to have any sort of opinion or emotion about it, but that was a few episodes back, wasn't it?The crew seemed utterly unconcerned about losing 2 days which is freaky.
Funny, isn't it? Red Dwarf was done deliberately with cheap-ass effects and full of cliches but it's STILL a much better show than apparently Torchwood will ever be.I'm reminded of the Red Dwarf epiosde: "Thanks for the Memories" were they start off with the lost memories and the episode is told in flashbacks as they found out what happened. A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. Leonard Nimoy.
Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. The only thing I liked about this episode was the switcharoo between Tosh's and Owen's character but other than that, it felt like it could've cut down to a half an hour.
P.S. - I like the fact that for us Americans, Torchwood is only a week behind.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
