Australia's lack of an R rating kills another game

Post by Vympel »

Dark Sector refused classification

Fucking bullshit. How the hell can MA 15+ be the highest rating we have when the average gamer in Australia is in his fucking mid 20s?

Well, I hope the game is shit (like the newest SoF was) so it's no loss ...

Your colony really started sucking after you left the Empire. You can rejoin... for the price of a soul.

What the Christ? I was actually a little interested in Dark Sector, but I can't imagine why it was refused classification; violent? These people allowed God of War II into this country, and that is the definition of violent. Sinister storyline and ominous outcome? Did they not actually see what was going on in Kane & Lynch, or The Darkness?

What the fuck is wrong with Australia? Films like Saw and its binillion sequels get released here, and its only virtue is that the torture devices are 'clever'. Oh noes, the clearly not real people are screaming in pain! Stupid fuckers.

Soldat was pretty violent for it's level of graphics. 2d gibs and bodies spewing out blood for all!

I know I've said it a lot before but I remain convinced as ever that the Australian bureaucracy hates anything to do with computers, the internet, or video games.

I've never understood how God of War gets away scott free with sex minigames and ridiculous amounts of violence and Mass Effect gets called a porn game by Fox news.

What disappoints me most is that this revelation has actually kindled interest in me, and looking at videos and stuff it actually looked like a game which would have been enjoyable to play. It looked as though it played rather like Resident Evil 4, with a little Gears of War to boot, so it seemed solid. Production values are high, so the environments look rather cool as well (decaying post-Soviet cities and such), the atmosphere is nice, the gimmick of the Glaive seemed pretty well implemented to boot.

It did seem pretty brutal, but I've seen headshots on helpless prisoners before in Mass Effect, and heads exploded in RE4. Hell, the first thing I ever did in God of War II was pull a man apart like a freshly cooked lobster. Unless I'm missing something, it really isn't that awful in terms of brutality. I suppose superior graphics have something to do with it, but most of the counters in Assassin's Creed would match this game in terms of nastiness, particularly the 'threading the needle' thing you can do iwth the hidden dagger and someone's eye socket. And people are left moaning on the ground whining about the painful mortal injuries you inflict as well.

If it does turn out to be win, as it may end up clunky like Heavenly Sword, then I suppose I may be able to import it, though it is only one game.
