and that is what happens when you use a lack of information in the story in order to defend the police. I don't know what it is about people feeling the need to deflect criticism from authority figures. Since the family did call the police, your argument seems to boil down to that the police wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. At least they could have done something... definitely not tell the minor girl if she calls them again they are throwing her in jail. Some people really need to lose their job over this or even see some prison time for that comment. It is very possible that that comment lead to her death.

Combination of the cops and bubble boy who seemed intent on blaming the victim and/or victim's family.

It's likely that these people have a history with the police and many previous calls for service which resulted in either empty claims, or the victim withdrawing from the case and the police being left with nothing to prosecute with.

The police have very limited resources on hand, and they cannot respond to every call they recieve. Sometimes they have to make a judgement call, and there's always potential for mistakes there. Just on the surface here, it sounds like the police were dealing with an example of the "crying wolf" syndrome.

Very true, but one would think a potential murder case would still be given rather high priority.

When I first read this, I first thought, "Did the police dispatcher learn how to do their job watching that scene from Ferris Buhler?"
