Witcher Enhanced Edition! Happy to Pay Again.

Post by Vympel »

I didn't know the dialog in the English language version was nerfed. I'm really glad about this, I'm definitely going to get it, the Witcher is one of those games that I'm going to play multiple times.
"The Witcher Enhanced Edition will be a completely polished product, something rarely found on the PC market. Of course, it would have been best if the original edition could look that way. There were a few ways the original game didn't quite live up to our high expectations, but now we're trying to make up for it. Work is being done on two levels: one concerns the removal of technical obstacles that hinder the player from properly using the game and thus gaining enjoyment from it.

Some of those elements include the loading times, which will be reduced by 80%, the stability of the game on different PC configurations, as well as an array of smaller fixes that will increase interactivity and precision in combat.

The other level consists of very important changes that are not usually found in patches.

First and foremost, the English-language version will, for the most part, be completely re-done. The amount of text in that version was reduced compared to other language versions and that was said to cause a significant decrease in immersion and atmosphere. Now the English version will be as polished and atmospheric as the other language versions.

Speaking of other language versions, most of them will be improved in some way. Significant changes will also be made in the German version, where we are planning to re-record the voices for many of the characters.

The most important improvements concern those elements of the game that players criticized the most. For example, over 50 new supporting character models will be added, so that the player won't run into the same person too often.

The inventory panel will be re-designed and improved, and some elements of the main game screen will be polished.

However, one of the biggest changes that will greatly increase the player's immersion in the game world will be improvements concerning dialogue scenes. Both Geralt and non-player characters will get over 100 new animated gestures which will make their body language during conversations much more natural. Additionally, the facial animation and lip-sync system will be re-created, making the faces of the speakers now even more natural, as well. Of course, I've mentioned only the most important changes, and that's still a lot. There will be many smaller changes that will make the game more fun. I'm convinced that, thanks to those changes, The Witcher will almost be the ideal game for fans of PC role-playing."
Fucking awesome. The 1.2 Patch already cut down the excessive loading times of the original version significantly, so hopefully the loading times will be practically gone with the Enhanced Edition.
Fans that have already bought the game need not worry, however, because the new content and improvements will be available to them in the form of a downloadable update."
Wow. I bow down. But I'll still pay again. I want all the Feelies.

This is pretty cool. I guess it means it sold well enough for them to figure they'd get even more sales if the dialogue was better.

I'd heard (particularly from our Polish SDN members) that the dialogue was terrible compared to the original, but I didn't notice. Ironically, the level of dialogue expected in an RPG is so low that it's hard to tell the difference. :)

Adding extra models will be great too. I mean, in the outskirts, who didn't think 'wtf I just got done boning this chick and now she's dead' because it was the same model?

I personally got tired of talking that fat merchant everywhere I went and finding out he was a different person.

And then of course there's that weird wavy hand animation that everyone uses way too much.

Well, isn't that something? Fortunately I'd only gotten to the vbery beginning of Chapter 3, so I might as well leave off there and wait for this edition. So many other things to do that it won't be such a problem. :D

Hell, I thought the English dialog was better than most dialog I've seen in games in the last decade.

I'm going to finish it and play it again when the enhanced edition comes out. I'm up to Chapter IV now.

The voices in the German version could indeed need some work.

What was cut from the English version? Maybe to cursing? There is lot's of "go fuck yourself" style talk in the German version.

I have only recently started playing the Game, as I have played enough RPGs to know that it's always good to with for the first few patches but the Enhanced Edition sounds even better.

While I would love to see and play the version that the developers dreamed of doing, I would be more happy to see something new. Usually its not a very good business idea to re-do the same game over again.

Well, this game is a product of tender care and love, and it shows.

This is simply what people owning CD Projekt (a Polish game distributor) always wanted to do. It's safe to say business considerations may be of secondary importance to them.

Of course, I think it's a commendable attitude to take - improving their original product to standards they find satisfactory, and what's more, not screwing those who originally bought the game by offering it as a downloadable upgrade.

If only say, Obsidian could've done that with KOTOR2, though of course that wasn't their doing.

CD Projekt is in an advantageous position of wholly owning the development studio. It's a rare occurence indeed that developers get to work under people who are just as enthusiastic as them about turning out an excellent game :D

They seem to like gaming in general, though. I'd love to work with their marketing team at some point in the future.

I disagree. Because CD Projekt RED decided to do a George Lucas I'm more likely to buy their next game immediately when it comes out, rather than wait till it hits a lower price.

Not to take this too far off subject, but isn't it a fucking bitch that Take Two is being forced to settle a class action suit over content that required an addon that broke the EULA to access, and fucking Obsidian and Lucas Arts were allowed to rip off gamers with a completely unfinished POS with no repercussions?
