I'm not so sure about them just out-and-out declaring independence because that could cause a reaction that could put the lead people out of power since Bosnia and Herzegovina is still a protectorate. Or an attempt to remove them could lead to them actually managing to enforce the declaration. Who knows. But I doubt they'll attempt such a one-sided declaration without preparation. The Duchess of Zeon wrote: The Republic Srpska is probably, with this example of immediate Russian recognition, preparing its own declaration of independence as we speak.
I find it more likely that they would use the "Kosovo precedent", to again put independence on the table, combined with a threat of a referendum (which they would win with 80-90%), as either a stick for confederation-style reforms (instead of strengthening the central government which has been the goal of the EU, US, the Federation part of BiH, Croatia - well, pretty much everyone except RS, Serbia and Russia), or, depending on the situation in Kosovo and Serbia truly for independence as a payback to Serbia for losing Kosovo, in some sort of structured deal.
On a grammatical note: Republika Srpska is the official English name of the entity, as much as that name has no relationship with English. The correct translation, not used because of certain embarrassing implications that certain powers wanted to avoid for their domestic consumption, is The Serb Republic. Republic Srpska is nonsensical - its a mishmash of an English noun and a BHS (to use the currently in-vogue acronym for the languages in Bosnia) adjective.
