SGA 4*18 "The Kindred: Part 1" (Spoilers)

Getting the thread rolling, and I loved Telya's reaction to Rodney's recording.

the looks exchanged by Rodney and Ronan were pretty good. But they were a far cry from teal'c refusing to share ice cream with O'neill

Okay, that's a fucked up cliffhanger. I wonder how they plan on explaining that one.

Nice to finally get something that wasn't filler, but that is one fucked up cliffhanger. :?

I think it's fairly obvious he's a replicator of some kind.

I've gotta tell you, the preview prior to this episode really, really fucked up the whole damn thing. It said it was the replicators that were the problem in this ep, and there were no replicators in this episode (but probably next, Carson and all), AND showed the big reveal at the end. Who were the asshats who let that preview out, really?

I found this episode rather annoying in the amount of jumps we had. They were zipping around from place to place so frequently it was hard for me to get into any 'drama' when the next shot is Rodney eating.

The end was rather wierd too, even having read this thread knowing it was coming didnt make it much different. We know Carson is dead so either he is obviously a duplicate. It dosent make much sense for Carson to be working with a Wraith and Michael said he was getting 'help' with the Hoff virus. The guys they were shooting and the place they were in looked Geni as well.
Overall, it seems the writers went overboard in the creation of new 'suspense' subjects and left very little in the way of actual progression.

Oh duh.

Carson was totally brought back to life with the help of the magic replicator cells of magic. I think. The only questions are who, and how he got to the Pegasus galaxy.

they said in the preview "This is not your Carson, this one's a replicator"
but I think it would ahve been cooler to have the Carson we saw blow up ahve been a replicator, and the real one had been captured a while ago. They did taht in DS9 and it was a great concept though poorly delivered.

Okay, you just ruined the next episode for me. Spoilers for this episode are fine, spoilers for future episodes, not so much. If I want to be spoiled, I'll go to gateworld, not the thread for the episode I just watched.

It was alright. Glad to see plot threads coming together (the missing Athosians, the anti-Wraith protein, Michael's campgain). Too jumpy, though. And of course, another apperance by my favorite Wraith, Todd. I especially loved his line when Team Sheppard returned to his base and they pull guns on the Wraith drones:

"Oh, put those away. They're just here for the clean-up."

So, decent, but flawed, especially with Beckett's return already being spoiled. Of course, if Beckett is an Asuran and he manages to escape, then they could have him seize control of the rogue faction; this would allow them to write out the Weir from the mid-season cliffhanger as Tori Higginson will not be reprising the role.

RepliCarson dosent make much sense to me. He has nothing worthy of being brought back for. If he is an Asuran then why the hell would he be happy to see Atlantis personnel or helping Michael ?
I find it rather dubious they could hold a replicator in that kind of facility against his will so overall it just struck me as being really wierd. Have to agree with it being too jumpy and I'm rather disappointed with the Daedalus being taken on by a cruiser.

I notice they did the act of plot 'accidental miss' when they actually decided to fire their beam weapons and the way they were fired makes me question the competence of the gunners. That Wraith cruiser should have been utterly fragged within moments of attacking the Daedalus with those beam weapons. I cant really see Beckett pulling off an 'evil' personna but oh well, bring on part 2.

They didn't fire with the beam weapons until after they were told Tayla was on board, and then they fired with intent of disabling as opposed to destroying. So it's not really too hard to see why they might have missed when they weren't aiming for the main body and not trying to frag it.

They could have easily gone after it, shot a missile up its ass (since projectiles are apparently the only weapons that work in hyperspace) to disable it, and then board it. Then jump back to pick up the stragglers, and jump back to Atlantis.

They should have been firing their beam weapons BEFORE they were told Teyla was onboard. It has already been established that the 'weapons officer' only has to 'push this button' to ready the weaponary so even being caught off guard they took their pleasant time shooting back at the cruiser.

Even if we give the benefit of the doubt and say the Asgard beams take longer to charge, the angle they decided to fire at was horrible. I'm guessing they were trying to aim for the left most engines rather than hit the ship squarely in the rear for fear it would blast right through the ship. Regardless, the lead time on those two blasts was awful enough to not even really bother firing if they cant use the beam weapons for surgical strikes.

I agree, I've seen 14 year old kids with better aim than that. Reminds me of "Into the Pirkinning" (google it) with the photon torpedoes. :D

Did you dive for cover right after the final act? because everything I said was in the preview for next week

Uh, some of us don't (or in my case, can't) watch the preview for next week's show. If you were here longer, you'd realize that many of us don't watch the show on SciFi. Don't go thinking that you did nothing wrong, you assumed that everyone saw the preview for the next week. I'm telling you that was a bad assumption, and that makes you an ass, because that's what happens when you make assumptions.

Also, there's a subtle difference between what you said and say what DesertFly or CaptJordan said. They didn't flat out say that he was a replicator, but rather suggested it as a likely answer to the question I posed. If they had said the same thing as you, I'd be ripping on them instead.

I've gone through the thread and tinytexted all the part 2 spoilers I can find. I was hoping for a different explanation, myself.

Also, I didn't mind the Wraith ship being able to dodge shots like that - those beams - possibly influenced by the similarly dawdling Ori beam weapon - propagate as slow as molasses, and trying to disable the cruiser with missiles or railguns before it jumped was a losing proposition, too.

Why? If anything, I would have thought rail guns would have been the most effective means of disabling the target.

When they've not been able to hit something volatile like a landing bay, their firepower has never seemed particularly impressive. I've certainly seen nothing suggesting they can disable a cruiser in twenty seconds or so.

I would think engines would be one of those systems that would have more tendency to be volatile.

Maybe it was the uber wraith jamming? ;) (You know, the crap that magically prevented Daedalus from beaming any nukes aboard hive ships in 2x01) After all, "Michael" is definitely smarter than your average wraith. (Which would mean that the writers are fans of SW given the extensive usage of jamming tech. :D)
