Possibility Independent Hillary Run.

Post by Yogi »

We all know that Hillary doesn't like to lose. What are the odds of Hillary pulling a Lieberman and running as an independent if she loses the primary?

As good as 0 I would guess. She knows that she would have no chance of winning and would be ostracised forever from the Democrats.

I think nil. Most of her campaign staff are democratic party regulars, and would probably abandon her. Also most of her "political pull" is due to her party membership and the connections that she and former President Clinton made during the presidency. The worry isn't that she will run independent and split the party. The worry is that she will use some of her connections to "steal the nomination" and split the party.

As hungry as she is for the office, I doubt she'd bother: independents don't win, particularly when there's a well-liked mainstream candidate.

Even if she did, she's become a REAL media chew toy: "The Little Engine that Couldn't Understand when to Quit while it was Ahead."

Not a chance. If she did that she'd be an outcast among Dems and, of course, Republicans are never going to accept her. It would be the end of her political career. Forever. Especially since it would draw votes away from Obama and people would hate her for that.

She may be going a little batshit at the moment but she's not that dumb.

So now that that is out of the way.... What are the chances of her and Obama combining on the ticket?

Zero. Hillary will add nothing to the Obama ticket. With all the bad blood especially, and given that most of Hillary's base (80 percent, I think I read on another thread) said they'd vote for Obama if he was the nominee anyway.

Significant third-party runs like Perot in 1992 or Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 thrived off of disillusionment with the two major candidates, and as I don't see Obama alienating many Democrats, an independent Hillary run would be dead-in-the-water anyway.

However, I do see a significant third-party effort on the right. Even if nobody steps up and campaigns, enough people might dislike McCain enough to vote for the Libertarian or Constitution parties, or write in one of the other former Republican nominees.

I'll be glad when the primaries are over just so we don't have to listen to any more of these half-assed paranoid ideas anymore.

Exactly as high as the possibility of her running a campaign as an "(I-NY)". Oh and that is regardless of who wins the Dem nomination.

Hear Hear.

Actually I wanna see what beautifully orated evisceration of McCain awaits after the Primary.

Oh, and it appears Clinton's goose is not only cooked but in danger of setting the house on fire!
