Wild West Squids
So, I think this goes here, if it doesnt, then can someone move it to where ever it belongs to? Thanks.
Ok, so this came into my head after watching 3 Tremors movies, then watching Invader Zim, then playing Wild Arms 3 in the same day.
The story is set on a world, its pretty big, that once was pretty normal, like Earth. There were these race of squid/crab things that were amphibious, they lived primarily in the sea, but could move up on land.
Well, discovering that it was easier to build factories/combustion engines/chemistry/industry they started to decide to start buidling cities near the shorelines. So, it was all pretty good for a while, they reached Industrial Revolution type technology and found some old machines already up on land.
Anyways, it went on pretty good, untill around 500 (not a set number) years ago, their planet started decaying, turning into massive deserts.
Since they dont have the tech to do anything about it, they simply started finding ways to try to live on, simply thinking they would try to move as much as they could into the seas. Except they started drying up too.
As the world started dying more and more, they had to find ways to survive up on the increasingly hot desert world that was being born around them, so they found a solution in the form of some animal.
The animal, I call em barnacles, somehow eat some bacteria in the air (I just made a bullshit explanation, but I think it works) and secrete water/liquid, these barnacles are used by placing them on the squids bodies, to keep them moist and happy.
Except that these barnacles dont reproduce fast enough, (they are long lived though) and they are used by the Worms. Big graboid like things, that lived inthe small deserts of old, but now live almost anywhere, due to the planets current condition. The Worms eat the Barnacles to keep them in their bodies, where they eat a bacteria in their bodies, and extreme that liquid that helps them with digestion. (I though some kind of co-evolution type thing)
Well, Squids need Barnacles. Worms need Barnacles. So the Squids try to kill and gut the Worms, hoping to get all the good Barnacles out of them.
So, any glaring errors I need to fix here? Is it believeable? Stuff like that. Or criticisms, anything is usefull.

Like you, I'm not quite sure what to make of your statement, so I'll take it as a compliment.Lambda 00 wrote:I'm not quite sure what to make of this...It sure is rather original.

That's about hillbillies, not Wild West cowboys. And it's certainly not set on Arakis.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Doesn't Adult Swim have a show something like that?Ford Prefect wrote:If you took this to the logical extreme and made the squids actual cowboys, you'd be on to a winner.

If by "cowboys" you mean "rocket launcher-toting, armed to the teeth state of the art badasses" I think this story has a lot of potential.
Of course, when you get right down to it, the jump in awesomeness from normal squid to cowboy squid is far larger from the further upgrade to the aforementioned badass squid. You're only getting a little more out of it, so you might as well keep the cowboys.
