MSNBC Democractic Ohio Debate

Post by Soontir C'boath »

Anyone else having problems with the debate continuing to buffer? It's doing this on both IE and Firefox.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I have heard complaints about that on another board.

But I think Obama is doing well; he really hammered Hillary on the Iraq issue.

Am I alone in wanting to reach through the coax and slap Russert and Matthews with essays on proper journalism?

Those two annoy me on a viscereal level.

As to the actual debate.. Obama takes it. Clinton needed something to stick well and come out ahead. The handicap she faces is ridiculous; only Mark Penn's pigheadedness can explain the continuance. Obama simply needed not to look like a bumbling fool. No bumbling fool.

Also, a question from Drudge's not-really-news? A reminder of how pathetic these simpletons from the Beltway media are. Make. It. Stop.

Let me summarize for you:
"Senator Obama, your campaign seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?"

"Now Hillary, have you quit the Communist party yet?"
and
Mr Obama what is your favorite food.

Hillary please explain the theory of relativity here is chalk and a black board.
Oh, they also interrupted one of her answers to cut to ads. And then cut back in without her at the table so it looked like she was about to run away. Image

Hillaryis44.org isn't in meltdown mode, it's in flat out denial. Some of those people still think she's winning this.

I just have to weigh in quickly that after tonight's debate, Russert wins the award for worst moderator for this primary election. Every debate, he brings up these far fetched hypotheticals and uses twisted logic in a twisted line of questioning to turn the debate into a rendition of Meet the Press and I'm glad Hillary called him out on it. I hope this guy never moderates a debate again because with him at the helm, it becomes a game of 'gotcha.'

I disagree. These are hypotheticals that frequently could become an issue - I'll admit Russia sending troops into Serbia is farfetched, but it is a legitimate hypothetical question that would reflect heavily on a President's judgement. Moreover, Hillary has dodged a hard hypothetical in a past debate - I remember Russert asked her and Obama once what they would do if Israel took unilateral action against a prospective Iranian nuclear program, and both she and Obama dodged around the issue. That's not some twisted hypothetical - this type of thing had actually happened before.

At the same time, I'm glad Hillary called Russert and the Mod on the fact that they hit her first with the questions, but it was hardly as if Russert laid off Obama completely - he essentially called Obama a dishonest oathbreaker over the fact that he was trying to get around a promise to commit to public financing if the Republican did the same.

Plus, to be perfectly honest, I'd rather see how they respond to the foreign policy hypotheticals than hear the nth re-iteration of "Obama's plan includes a mandate for children, but not one for adults! Why is he being hypocritical? Doesn't he know that the "immortals" will game the system if it isn't mandatory?" followed by "Our plans are 95% the same, but I have a philosophical difference - I think people will buy health insurance if they can afford it, and hey, Massachusett's mandate failed, so doesn't that discredit them all (except the one in my plan)?"

Not to mention that ridiculous set of questions about Louis Farrakhan.

Russert: Senator Obama, you have been endorsed by Louis Farrakhan, who thinks Jewish people suck. Do you reject this endorsement?
Obama: I have repeatedly denounced Minister Farrakhan as an anti-Semitic asshole.
Russert: But your pastor says he is an example of greatness! And you got your book title from your pastor!
Obama: Whatever, dude. Farrakhan is still an anti-Semitic asshole, whom I have repeatedly denounced. Also, Jewish people love me.
Russert: Do you reject his endorsement of you?
Obama: I didn't do anything to court his support and I never will. But if someone's going to go on record in the Chicago Tribute saying I'm awesome, who am I to argue? Anyway, Jewish people love me. Yay Israel!
Clinton: Well, I explicitly rejected the support of anti-Semites in my New York senate campaign in 2000. I don't know why Senator Obama will denounce Farrakhan but not reject his support.
Obama: Actually, I don't think there's a difference, but if you do, then I denounce and reject Farrakhan. Can we talk about something that isn't retarded now?

Isn't Obama crushing Hillary according to opinion polls in Texas 50 to 46 percent? :?

I understand that she's "not down until she's out", but really, I think the race is more or less decided in Obama's favour since he just doesn't fuck up.

Also, Obama was correct in blasting Bush over Russian-American relations, pointing to the power of Putin. Hillary just struck a Bush 2.0 note with her reply...

To be fair, I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce that guy's last name. Of course, I'm not being paid to know.

On a similar note, I believe they also showed a speech Hillary made in Rhode Island (their primary's also March 4), where almost the entire content of the speech was mocking Obama supporters, basically calling them naive for buying into the whole "change" thing. Behind her a bunch of people including some of the RI superdelegates that have endorsed her, like Jim Langevin from RI 2nd district and Sheldon Whitehouse (the guy who defeated Lincoln Chaffee for Senate in 06, though frankly Chaffee was RINO that really only stuck with the party because it helped him bring money into the state).

Anyway, that's beside the point. Mark Patinkin, a regular reporter for the Providence Journal, wrote about how strange it was because from the camera POV the area looked packed, but if the cameras were where the superdelegates were sitting you would have seen that there was almost no one there. Michelle Obama drew at least as many people as Hillary Clinton did, if not more.

Yeah, I caught the highlights of Hillary's 'The Skies will open' mockery speech. She basically called everyone who likes Obama an idiot. Daily Show called her out on it pretty well.

I love the way both of them promise they're going to kill or renegotiate NAFTA. The US negotiated NAFTA on very favourable terms for itself, ensuring guaranteed access to Mexican and Canadian energy supplies in the coming decades as worldwide energy supplies dwindle.

Only a fool in the US would renegotiate NAFTA now, because new governments in Mexico or Canada might see an opportunity to throw up barriers to US energy access in return for the trade barriers that the US will inevitably demand in order to protect its manufacturing jobs. The only good reason to renegotiate NAFTA is if they can guarantee that the governments of Mexico and Canada are so spineless and idiotic that they give up huge concessions in return for absolutely nothing.

Labour-union cocksucking has always been the Democrats' weak spot, just like corporate cocksucking has always been the Republicans' weak spot.
