"Ultimate" Frivolous Expenditure

Post by Tsyroc »

...but I still like it a lot. :D

I did the pictures like this mostly to give the hammer some scale. As for weight, the shipping weight was about 28.5 pounds. So this Mjolnir is close to 20 pounds heavier than the replica of 616 Thor's hammer. Although, that version of Mjolnir is basically a solid block of aluminum with a wood handle, this one is a bit more hollow.

That's pretty freaking badass. How's the heft and swing on it, and how easy is the handle to grip?

It seems like it would be very good for powerful overhead and downward strokes. I wouldn't want to have to try and control things if I missed on a side shot. It's probably doable for someone with better upper body strength than me.

Given it's size and weight and that it's made for show I haven't really taken any swings with it. I don't want to dent or scratch it, or put a big ass hole in my wall. :)

The axe head is described as "unsharpened", which is technically true but it was sharper than I expected and not exactly what I'd call blunt.

I like the grip. It's an improvement over the other Thor hammer I have but that could be that I'm more used to swinging something long handled like an axe or sledge hammer which you would normally use two hands on.

STOP! HAMMERTIME!

(The Deathstalker apologizes for the spam, but he just couldn't help himself)

It is an impressive bit of hardware. On a side note, it has all the D&D weapon types covered, blunt, slash and pierce.

Thanks.

I have one just like that too. :D The stand in your picture looks a little better put together than my actual one though. I think they touched it up so you don't see the seam between the back and the base.

Anyway, that hammer is much, much smaller than Ultimate Thor's but still pretty hefty for someone to hold in one hand. It's a solid block of aluminum with a pretty sturdy piece of leather wrapped wood screwed into it.

I think the people who designed these prop replicas did an excellent job making them to scale. Unfortunately for me I'm not 6'6" and buff like Thor. :D

I hope it came with the matching harness, as well as a self-help book or two.

Seriously though, that thing is badass looking.

Nice.

Gold plated even. 8)

It's interesting, while Diamond Select's website says they are sold out it seems that several websites are offering the Beta Ray Bill hammer at a discount from the original price.

Oh well, my credit card is going to hate me these next few months. :)

I generally try to keep my fat ass off of the internet. :)

Plus, I'd have to figure out how to use the timer on my camera, assuming it has one. :?

You need to befriend some huge blond biker dude, and get him to cosplay Ultimate Thor with your hammer.

Even better: if you already have a huge blond friend.

I'd probably have a better shot at getting some girl to dress up as "Thor Girl", or even Universe X' female version of Thor. :)

I think it would be funnier if you more closely resembled your navy-era self and the hammer outweighed you. :)

Other than around bootcamp time my Navy era self wasn't exactly svelt, althought by this decade's standards even my pushing the body fat standards self of the 90s would seem smallish these days. :)

Still, I'd have to agree with you that imagining my 165 pound self trying to hold that hammer for long would be pretty amusing and would make for a pretty funny picture. :D
