Regarding nudity
Before anyone starts flaming me, I want to point out that I'm talking about tribal nudity.
Why is tribal nudity MORE acceptable to MOST people as compared to display of nudity by anyone in a 'civilized' country?
Well, in singapore anyway, somehow tribal nudity is perfectly acceptable on TV while films involving nudity by 'civilized' people are not...
Is it because some people view tribal people as sub-human or non-human? Because they are considered to be a common animal like apes and etc as compared to a 'civilized' human being?
Just a question

What's not okay about it? If you've spent money on the magazine, you can be as aroused by it as you like!Darth Raptor wrote:I'd also point out that the kind of nudity you see in an issue of National Geographic is neither intended to be nor perceived as erotic. It's okay to see some boob. It's not okay to be turned on by it.

I think he meant to explain the point of view of the people referred in the OP not his personal opinion, that's why they don't denounce that nudity.Molyneux wrote:What's not okay about it? If you've spent money on the magazine, you can be as aroused by it as you like!

Quess it all depends on the country. Here in Germany you have nudity on soap operas in the middle of the day. It has to do with many of the other countries being hypocrites thats all. And yes the German way of life has corrupted my poor Backward American thinking.
If I remember right from my culture anthropology class I took long time ago, it has to the view that they they are primitive and therefore are not entitled to the same coverings that the rest of us are, or something like that.

I actually recall one person rambling about how black people on National Geographic is okay but not white people. Personally, I see precious little difference. All the better I guess.I'd also point out that the kind of nudity you see in an issue of National Geographic is neither intended to be nor perceived as erotic. It's okay to see some boob. It's not okay to be turned on by it.

Like in Saudi Arabia? Iraq? Iran?Zixinus wrote:Also, isn't nudity for excused with climate? I mean, I recall hearing that in warmer climates people have no issue of nudity.
Aversion to nudity is a social issue, plain and simple. Religion plays a huge part in that, and Christians tend to give a pass to "primitive" people because of the "innocence" clause. Specifically, they think it's OK to break their rules if you're "innocent" (which is their code-word for ignorance) and so you don't know any better.

From what I understand clothes-wise, the full, flowing garments of light weaves protect the desert-dwellers from the harsh sunlight/UV rays, while allowing the body to cool itself by wicking moisture away from the surface of the skin. Most desert-garments for those areas are not form-fitting or tight, allowing even a minor breeze to aerate and cool the body.Darth Wong wrote:Like in Saudi Arabia? Iraq? Religious practices may have come from this practicality of garments, even as Jewish and Muslem dietary restrictions came about from safe food practices for a desert community. Yet the efficency and protection of the traditional garments most likely evolved first.

Tropical climate peoples tend to be less nudity averse, it's warm and rains all the time, clothes are a liability more than anything. Those who live in warm but arid climates tend to have big nudity taboos because being naked in the desert is suicide.Zixinus wrote:Also, isn't nudity for excused with climate? Also, aren't those countries too controlled by religious nuts, just with a half-moon instead of a cross?
Your kidding. And what do you mean by exotic pet store? If you happen to work in an exotic pet store in Liverpool, you're allowed to go topless, even if female.

Quite serious. The first time I heard that, though, it was tropical fish stores, which makes sense; where else would you find a mermaid?Zixinus wrote:Your kidding. Ghetto Edit: After further research, this could very easily be true, in the same way that Bigfoot could very easily exist. Nobody ever cites their source on this, and I have been unable to find anything from Liverpool regarding the dress code for their saleswomen. Valdemar, of course, might know better, but I'm inclined to leave it as an urban legend.
