VIDEO: WARNING DISTURBING FOOTAGE: YouTube video of Marine throwing puppy off cliff
There has been strong global backlash to an internet video that shows a US Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff in.
The video shows two Marines joking while one holds up a black and white puppy, which he then hurls into a ravine.
Military officials are investigating the video. Major Chris Perrine of the Marine Corps Base Hawaii says it appears the man is part of a unit based in the islands.
Marine officials have called the YouTube video "shocking and deplorable" saying it violates "the high standard we expect of every Marine"
Users of the video share website have also condemned the video.
There has been a flood of angry comments to the YouTube page, with some users posting one of the Marine's name and home address, urging people to protest at his house.
Warning: The attached video contains highly disturbing footage.
That angers me to no end. Dead or not, there is something fucking wrong with that guy and his chuckle head buddy. They should both be kicked out of the Corp.

I am the hammer, I am the right hand of my Lord. The instrument of His will and the gauntlet about His fist. The tip of His spear, the edge of His sword. I am His wrath just as he is my shield. I am the bane of His foes and the woe of the treacherous. I am the end.

"Fear and ignorance claim the unwary and the incomplete. The wise man may flinch away from their embrace if he girds his soul with the armour of contempt."
That is one of the most disgusting things I have seen in a long time. If it was teenagers I would be outraged and furious, but they have some SMALL excuse because there is actual evidence of brain development not being fully there in many cases of moral judgment, and being young and stupid is unfortunately very common.
But these are goddamn adults, and on TOP of that, trained military personnel who should be held to a far higher standard then the average citizen even. They should both be dishonorably discharged, fined and even possibly jailed for such a horrible act.
You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong
"There is nothing wrong with being ignorant. However, there is something very wrong with not choosing to exchange ignorance for knowledge when the opportunity presents itself."
It seemed to me that another person was making the barking and yelping noises, trying to make the scene more "hilarious" while there were was a real dog barking in the back round.

I imagine only a few Marines are dicks like the guys in the OP, most I hope are like this guy.

That is the consensus that was reached on a number of other forums on this subject. Dead puppy, and the Marine offcamera was making the yelping noises.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'
The video is disgusting wether the puppy was dead or not.
Playing around with the corpse of a baby dog makes you a douchebag.
Playing around with and killing a live puppy makes you high king of the douchebags, and legally liable to boot. I agree with the general sentement. Throw these assholes out of the corps.
Also, for some reason this video made me want to go hug my dog.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Even if it's fake it's still disgusting, poor taste does not even begin to cover it.

Being grabbed by the scruff stimulates calming hormones in dogs and cats, which is why bitches carry their pups the way they do. Having a "calm the puppy button" is a valuable survival trait for wild canines. It is not surprising that a puppy being held up by it's scruff is not struggling.
A puppy released from a scruff-hold and, to pick a random hypothetical situation, thrown off a cliff, would be consumed by MOUNTING terror as it plummeted to its death, making yelping noises of increasing volume.
Which scenario do you think is more likely?
That some marines would find a highly realistic artificial puppy and throw it off a cliff, after coaching one of them to make realistic high-pitched terrified puppy yelps at the appropriate time, cutting off SURPRISINGLY promptly when the pseudopuppy hit the ground all to make a video in which they appear to be assholes?
Or that a bunch of trained killers would murder a puppy for shits and giggles, while being stupid enough to videotape and post their disgraceful behavior on the internet?
*Even if the puppy was already dead, those were some convincing yelping noises that started and ended at just the right time. A lot of trouble to go to just to LOOK like huge shit-stacks.
Increasing terror correlates to increasing yelp volume.
I'd also be happy none of my country's soldiers tortured detainees or murdered families to cover their fuck-ups (let alone what Blackwater does) but those things are true.
If the dog is dead, throwing it off a cliff is not cruelty, it's inappropriate waste disposal. I don't think the UCMJ has specific provisions for littering, but there's probably some sort of consequence if anyone feels like prosecuting.
Unless the dog has an owner, in which case the Marines are asses for causing emotional distress upon said owner.
I told myself all day I was NOT going to watch that video. Then after reading the responses that it looked like the puppy was already dead and that the video was faked... I caved. I also agree. When the puppy was being tossed, it kept going flipping through the air. Wouldn't something that was alive try to naturally adjust itself, and thus not have that kind of rotation? That and the dogs barking never really got distant...

Conservation of angular momentum. Though it isn't really an intertial frame of motion, even with air resistance, I doubt that it would have stopped flipping, dead or alive.
US Marines in the past have recorded themselves teasing deprived Iraqi kids with bottled water. The cruelty and stupidity displayed here doesn't surprise me.
