How many Jedi are there?

My point was, since most canon data seems to agree that the total number of Jedi is roughly 10,000, such a large portion cannot reasonably be on Coruscant alone. Since as you stated Younglings (and perhaps also Padawans, although I have always thought that to be the lowest "full" Jedi rank) are not usually counted as Jedi, some of the 10,000 on Coruscant are probably in one of those groups, counted as Jedi in this source but not elsewhere for some reason.

I will agree that the total Jedi figure appears low; this would mean the Jedi suffered perhaps 2 % of their total number in losses on Geonosis alone. Personally, I preferred the Jedi as they were portrayed in Tales of the Jedi to the prequel-era Order: larger numbers, but a much looser organisation.

On the face of it, it is pretty ridiculous, but there is no way to estimate how many force users there should be in the galaxy. If the birthrate of sensatives is one per hundred worlds, then we suddenly have a reason for the tiny number of Jedi.

Just FYI, the majority of Force Sensitives were not Jedi. Most Jedi's came from well developed planets of the Republic, primarily the core and mid systems. In fact some planets of the Republic had their own traditions, the majority of force-sensitive Kel Dor became Baran Do Sages, some became Jedi, but even a large number of them studied under the Baran Do for a short time.

Well, if we are to include all the Jedi from the beginning to ROTS, then the ROTS novel had a paragraph where the archives that Anakin was trying to get access to was said to hold the records of over a billion jedi.

Makes since though. Before the whole ruusan conflict, the jedi were in far greater numbers because they came from multiple sources. Some of them were orphans, some were given to the order by their families, and some of them were basically recruited like the military does. The jedi had looser restrictions.

But now, after the whole battle, the Jedi placed many restrictions on their order, namely being who can be a jedi. Now, only force sensitive children that were still infants were being taken, and I guess that since that was the only way they got jedi from 1000 BBY to 19 BBY, it would make since that their numbers are low.
