Future Evolution

Post by Zor »

As far as i know, there are three books (After Man: A Zoology of the Future, Future Evolution by Peter Ward and the Book version of the Future is wild), Two TV Series (Primeval and The Future is Wildone website writen by a Russian that covers the idea of what life is going to evolve into millions of years in the future (generally after the Hairless Crested Savanah Apes have been removed from the scene). Needless to say, nothing is certain here, but we can at the very least make educated guesses on how things could unfold. After mankind packs up and leaves the homeworld for the stars, how could life evolve?

Personally, i was thinking about Mustelids doing well, in praticular weasels evolving to fill various predatory niches.

you'll also want to look at All Tomorrows which covers a future history of one billion years of human development as they spread to the stars, are conquered and reduced to pet-animals and playthings, redevelop sapience, are conquered again (this time by a human offshoot) and finally achieve success on a pan-galactic scale, told from the viewpoint of an alien archaeologist another billion years later. It's certainly worth a read. It doesn't, however, cover much about the state of the Earth after Man's departure.[/url]

I haven't read it, but I hear Stephen Baxter's Evolution is a good book that explores this concept
