I don't have an online source for you, but my source is "Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why" by Bart Ehrman, who is a a long time Biblical scholar (he also appeared on the Daily Show to plug the book, which is where I first heard of it).TithonusSyndrome wrote:I'd be incredibly interested in seeing a source on this.

Uhhh, wait, the book says that the sermon on the mount was added wholesale in the middle ages, it wasn't just reinterpreted in the middle ages or something like that? I suspect that's really wrong (my OUP study bible certainly doesn't mention it).

I do not believe Ehrman said that; I've read the same book. I think his point is that you just get tons of translations issues and minor errors before the age of moveable print that can occasionally change the story; wholesale additions are very rare.
