Warhammer 40K - Horus Heresy Novels

Post by Bedlam »

What stories would you like to be told in future Releases in the Horus Heresy Series? My prefered list would be: -

Space Wolves / Thousand Sons - Either two novels or one from alternative points of views telling the events leading up to and the battle between the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons. The Space Wolf side could possibly be told from a member of the Adaptus Custodus instead of a marine.

Cult Mechanicus - About the split in the Cult between those folling Horus and those remaining loyal to the emperor. I've heard this is the top of one of the future novels.

Blood Angels - There attack on the demon world ending with them arriving on Terra just before Horus's fleet.

Ultra Marines - There meat grinder action against the Alpha Marines and ending with them arriving at Terra to see the results of the seige.

White Scars - Story of there part in the battle for Terra, have no mention of whats actually happening at the imperial palace itself just there gerilla action and attempt to break the seige.

Imperial Palace - The main event either told from the point of imperial fists, Blood Angels or Custodius, possibly the emperor himself although that would be hard to pull off.

Anyone else got any parts of the war they would like to read about?

Bedlam, the next two novels are Battle For The Abyss, apparently featuring the Thousand Sons (and presumably the Space Wolves, too), and Mechanicum, which is about the Martian civil war. See the cover art at The Bell of Lost Souls blog.

The Ultramarines fought the Night Lords, not the Alpha Legion, IIRC, and I imagine we'll see the Siege of Earth eventually. Probably one featuring the Sons of Horus' drive for Earth, one on the Siege and one on the Emperor and Horus' final meeting.

The Ultramarines? Apart from fighting the Night Lords, they didn't do much during the Heresy, really.

I'd like to see a book cover (or at least mention) the battle on Tallarn

Considering that Battle for the Abyss has the guy wearing ultramarine blue armour, with an inverted omega shoulder badge with the word 'Ultra' apparently underneath it, I'm guessing it involves the Smurfs.

I thought it was the Word Bearers, since it was one of their high ranking captains who poisoned one of the suns in the Ultramar sector?

Quite possibly. I know it's definitely not the Alpha Legion.Vanas, regarding Battle For The Abyss, it looks like you're right; I took the blog at face value, sorry. For some reason, there is a Thousand Son on the cover, though.

It was after the heresy that Alpha Legion had the meatgrinder with the Ultramarines. Same sort of thing as the Iron Cage with the Imperial Fists.

I second a Space Wolves novel. Leman Russ fights hard, plays hard, and drinks hard-- he's an Astartes version of a rock star.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

He was carried, injured, into an escaping Thunderhawk on Istvaan. As I recall, his attempts to re-build his Legion go screwy and he leaves to atone for his cock-ups.

He returned home with orders to rebuild his army, which he did by experimenting with unreliable gene seed technology. This resulted in a very large number of mutant space marines which he locked up in his fortress before going rather mad and slaughtering them all and then running away into the eye. Presumably to go drinking with Russ.

I second the call for a Thousand Sons novel, or series of novels dealing with their fall and the aftermath from the Horus Heresy, especially the Rubric of Ahriman.

In relation to Corax, do people want the Horus Heresy series to end with the battle for earth or would you prefer it to continue on after so it shows the formation of the 'current' version of the imperium?

It would certainly be interesting to read about the fairly rapid acceptance of the Emperor as a god as well as the early stages of the Inquisition and how it came to be so feared. I'm certainly looking forward to the Ultramarine Vs Word Bearer meat grinder novel, heh.
