Seeing as how my dinner tonight was very spicey, I can see the future.(

Sometime before the end of 2003, the ST vs SW internet debate will recieve some sort of mainstream media coverage, and more than likely this board shall be named. Thoughts?

That would certainly be interesting. It would confirm my belief that TV news media has no F'ing idea what they are doing. They don't cover enough issues as it is!

No. I hesitate (for obvious reasons) to edit posts unless it's absolutely necessary, but I am afraid I cannot allow members of the board to take actions in the particular direction that this is going. My thoughts behind this thread were along the lines of "somethingawful.co* has quite an audience, our membership is growing every day(for better or worse), and the vitriol hurled at Mike will get noticed". Someone will make mention of it . Sooner or later.

Won't happen. Too much cussing. They'd need to bleep out much of the interesting parts of the posts and be left with the dry technical parts.

No, but is there some reason it wouldn't be nifty? It's not like it would irrevocably change our community; Trekkies have been popular subculture targets, and they're essentially the same after all these years.

They'd probably have to include some passages from El Boydo, though.

Never seen spicey used as a synonym for spiked. That would be cool, though, wouldn't it?

That would be sad and frightening if it happened. first off we dont need millions of people slashdotting SDN. secondly we dont need hoardes of trekkies and fundies and average uber american jungoists swamping the board.

No doubt that CNN or Fox would find Scoot's site and hold him up as the "typical sci-fi vs. debater," just to get ratings. Straight after, we'd see paranoid, yuppie mothers all across the nation forming, "Mothers Against Sci-Fi Versus Debates," groups only with a more catchy acronym than "MASFVD." No mother would want their kid getting involved in versus debates and turning out like Scoot, after all.
