This is pretty fucking cool, I'd get one. :)

Winston does bring up a good point though, unless the article is leaving out some key details, I don't know how you're supposed to be able to see it through the skin.

They implant a bunch of spheres in your skin (via the tatooing method, I assume) that can have a signal of some sort sent to them telling them to turn black from their default clear/white. The actual implant you see in the pictures is merely the controller, field emitter, biomonitors, power source, and whatever else they've crammed in there. I'd sure get one after testing assures me it's safe and maybe a few more functions are added.

It'd suck for it to be carcinogenic.

Hrm *jots down notes* aside from cyberpunk world filling the sky with advertisements, they can also fill your whole body up with spam as well. Awesome.

I'm not so sure, if this article is to be believed.

I'm curious about if this thing would continue to work under a variety of human stress situations, such as at high altitude or at SCUBA diving depths.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

All right, it might still have a niche market, but if I buy something like this and then see an advertisement for McDonald's or something on my arm, there will be blood - or at the very least, ink. Putting an ad on someone's skin without their prior consent would have to be a sticky legal situation.

Ah, so there's a separate tattoo that's altered with a field. Like turning your arm into a Magna Doodle (tm).

Or an MRI.

Oh, ugh. Ever seen the "exploding tattoo" episode of Mythbusters? Maybe it's not so busted after all, if this thing goes to market.

Oh come on! It'll be great, with the cell phone they can listen for key phrases like "So where do you guys want to eat." and then cue the restaurant ads.

You'll never have to think for yourself again. Your mind can just go to sleep and we'll all be sheep for the loving corporations to take care of.

Can't stop the signal!
Iteration X is most pleased, yes... we'll have to delegate some HITMarks for a raid to capture some samples for analysis and reassembly, yes...

Seriously. Awesome. I wait for the retinal implanted display that you combine with this and an implanted computer for brain-internet. :D

Although I'm wondering-if it's fairly minor, wireless-enabled, and runs on blood sugar (hence needing no routine recharging)... couldn't you modify a version and implant it in soldiers for, I suppose, medical checkup purposes? Probably couldn't do a complete checkup but I presume there's a lot of stuff even a fairly basic blood analysis can tell you about stress hormone levels and whatnot.

Might make for an interesting scientific experiment, or just useful for a medic in an emergency. Don't know how useful it'd be, though, if it only does blood analysis.

In that case, I would read the small print very closely.

You might be surprised how much you can learn from a blood test.

Regarding the device itself, I'm not too interested. What use are video calls in low-resolution black and white? I might be interested in a smaller one for the wrist or back of the hand, perhaps, but considering my warderobe, this thing would be next to useless to me.
