What'd've ya swiped?

Well, I don't consider software "piracy" as stealing... (I prefer to think of it as liberating improperly distributed data.)
As for stealing:
Assort bits and bobs from stores (I'm absentminded as fuck, I look at something small like a drill bit or screwdriver tip, or even nuts, bolts, washers, etc, then walk out still playing with it and never even thinking about it) Probably about $10 worth in the last 19 years, I've just about always done this, though it's accidental, when I was younger it was green string beans in the supermarket for some reason...
$16 worth of 4mb 30 pin ram about 4 years ago when I worked at a store. (got canned and almost arrested)
About $2000+ in hardware from the college (they leave a comp open near me and turn their back, it was stripped by the time they turned around, and I was out the door. Also used to raid with my security bit set.) Mainly used to raid the ram, HDD's, NICs, and floppies (I had a comp which ate them like popcorn and swapping my dead ones for good ones was a great and cheap way to replace'em). There were days I'd walk in with a nearly empty backpack, and walk out with it bulging. I also used to raid the dumpsters (technically considered stealing even though grounds and security didn't care as long as I didn't get hurt or get into the trashpactor, used to piss the all holy fuck out of the ITs) (I still don't feel bad about this since I don't think there is such a thing as "stealing" from the government/state, besides, I pay taxes, I may as well use what some of the stuff my taxmoney bought, they just throw the shit out 3 years from now.)
1 tape (Top Gun soundtrack) from an ex-friend, I don't feel bad about this one since he was the main reason I got the FBI at my door last spring.
Crapload of computer screws from friends and stores (again, I don't feel bad, these things add up to like a buck total for the last 10 years...lol, I don't do this one any more, except when it falls under my absentmindedness and I walk off with a handful cause I was playing with'em)
1 P-133 proc from a store I was working at, back when they were still considered decent (highest was the p2-266 at the time) I was scrapping a machine the owner bought from surplus, and I wanted the proc (had a buyer for it) so I bent some pins, left it on the counter just the right way that the owner brushed it and it fell, then he picked it up and grumbled about it being ruined, and I asked if I could have it, he obviously said yeah.
Though I don't consider it "stealing" (I consider it "liberating" information):
31.82GB mp3's
153 assorted burned proggies.
All of Enterprise season 2 (damn good show, and I'm gonna be pissed if it goes tits up, kinda like I was when I found out Farscape was to be killed)

Stopped more because a securtiy guard almost caught me, and it scared the beejeebus out of me.
Though with Kazaa and a variety of other pirating have done probably a lot more that I haven't honestly considered.

Funny thing with the FBI and me, I got the house call because my Social Science Homework got Published, and it duplicated information in a classified report.
I got the information from public acess sources....

For a start MP3's are not stealing, no in my opinion. 2000 mp3's and climbing as we speak here.
I've never stole anything big. I got caught stealing caps for my toy cap gun when i was about 10 and my dad beat me so hard i never stole from a shop again.
On the other hand i've done the Dine and Dash a few times but most ppl do. Don't they?
What whom from what agency started this thread, i'm innocent, innocent i tell ya.

Once with RAG at the university I was involved in the theft of....
Two sofas
Too many pint glasses to count
One bar stool from each bar in the building (8 in all)
A computer
A staple gun....and lots more junk....
And someones foam party....RAG sort of stole it and turned into a foam-toga party.

A friend of mine got drunk off his ass and stole two packs of roof shingles from a construction site. He dragged them along behind him for about a mile and a half. That's when he realized that by dragging the shingles, he had ripped open one of the packages and was leaving a trail, so to speak. Cops stopped him shortly after and gave him a nice big ticket. It was pretty funny.
As far as me personally, I've only stolen a few bar glasses. Oh, and I managed to swipe a glass out of the Algerian mission to the United Nations in New York that had a nice little seal on it. Don't know how I got away with that one.

Geez, I'm surrounded by kleptomaniacs!
I always help myself to a few extra mints at restaurants that have the big open jar near the entrance and that's as far as I go. Besides that I really haven't stolen anything.

As far as stealing from restaurants few can beat my late grandmother.
She would walk out with silverware, condiments containers, napkins, breadbaskets (With bread still in them), ketsup, mustard, sugar, fake sugar, rolled napkins, etc.

Restaurant 5-fingering: coffee creamer (both the fake and half and half stuff, I have a taste for it, so I clean out the holders within reach), ordering a water at a fast food place and getting soda (got whacked a few times for this one now, I'm not always subtle, besides the worst they do is ask me to pay for it, which I do if I'm caught)
A chip basket.
Some other stuff.
Other:
Standard computer store and friend's house kyping: computer screws... Brendon finally noticed on Saturday that whenever I'm over, his screw bowl has less screws in it, the local stores have also noticed this... I still don't know how I get'em, I guess you could say that I have a "magnetic personality"
Pair of pliers from the neighbor.
Lots of equipment and parts from the college electronics lab... Yes, they started making jokes about how they needed to start weighing me before I went into the back room, and when I left the back room... However they only suspected I was the cause, they never did catch me. (standard look at it for 10 minutes, they leave cause they think I'm figuring out how it works, which I usually was, then I'd absentmindedly put it in my pocket and walk out. Find it at home and not bother bringing it back.) Granted they did figure out real quick that most of the contraptions I brought back in had tracable parts in them, parts the college originally had... They just never bothered dealing with me.

When i was doing my MCP in visual InterDev, which i failed coz my teacher was a biggoted ass-clown who taught me nothing, we stole a whole network. I'll not go into the how and why but 12 time pc's and a network server where for sale on various on-line auctions the next day

Inside the supermarket, there was a soda vending machine next to a fridge full of soda bottles. Since they were the exact same kind of the machine, I figured out nobody could blame me anything, and I was right while I drank from the bottle in plain sight in front of every employee and the cashier, and nobody said a damn thing.

Pile of shit toyota pickup. Took me a block to realize the P-brake was engaged (it was that messed up), and another couple miles to realize it was a stick (the clutch was fucked, I was driving it like it was my family's van with the broken automatic tranny (had to up and down shift in sequence or it would fuck up))Robert Treder wrote:Nice. I knew what you meant, IB!! I knew! I knew! You put hundreds and thousands on white bread & butter and then you have FAERIE BREAD!!!! Mmmmmm. Good stuff.HemlockGrey wrote:Oh. I think all us Yankees assumed it was cash.TELL me you have hundreds and thousands in California?
What do you sprinkle on your ice cream?
Incidentally, I've never seen them anywhere on the eastern seaboard.
We do have them here on the East Coast; they're the little spherical rainbow sprinkles! I know because I've bought them to make my own faerie bread here in the States!!
Ahh, memories... *grin*
Oh yeah, and when I was four I took a pack of gum. And I have a few hundred stolen mp3s. And I constantly steal CDs from my brothers, but I give those back. Usually.
Edit: Oh yeah. Forgot about that time in Aus--do things taken for scavenger hunts count?
