Pick me a Steam Game

Post by Mr Bean »

Simple request, you have 45$ to spend on any two steam games. I already have the Orange Box and all HL related games. So two games, with 45$ which ones would you pick off of Steam to buy?

(FYI I also have Peggle)

Get Culpa Innata? No, just kidding, don't do that.

I only have Audiosurf, and after lookthing through the list of games there is nothing that I'm even remotely interested in buying. They have shit like COD4 if you don't already have it, though.

That's why I said two games and 45$, if it's 49.99 I likely own it or have played it one way or another.

The Introversion pack (assuming it is still there in your country). Why?
Uplink is good.
Darwinia is a blast.
DEFCON is brilliant.

And then you can look at:
Audiosurf.
Earth 2160 may be worth a gander if you love your RTS games.
Iron Warriors - because T-72 sims are awesome.
Safecracker is actually a fairly good logic/maths puzzle game.
The Hitman games if you don't already have them are definitely worth it (particularly Blood Money).
Psychonauts if you don't already own it.
X2: The Threat if you want a monstrously large Elite-clone.
Arx Fatalis if you want a RPG fix.

And there's lots more.

There are people who care about Introversion's games who didn't buy them years ago?

If you're into RTS's you must get the Company of Heroes and Opposing Fronts pack for $39.99 if you don't already have it, best RTS in this decade, so far, i would say, i even got a few "rts' are boring!" friends addicted.

If you're into sims type of games you Roller Coaster Tycoon Platinum is lots of fun, and can be had for $29.99.

If you're into adventure games The Longest Journey and Indigo Prophecy are great and they are just $9.99 each, the sequel to The Longest Journey, Dreamfall is $19.99.

If you like FPS, you must get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you don't have it, it's down to 19.99 (you'll probably want to patch it and mod it a bit, you can find threads about it here, but once done it's, IMO, the best FPS of last year, and yes, i did play COD4, Bioshock, Halo 3 and HL2:E2).

Those are my recommendations for each genre, you can mix up almost any 2 and some even 3 and stay within your budget, hope it helped.

Do this. Now. It also has the best looping suspense soundtrack ever.

Psychonauts heard many good things about this
Arx Fatalis:RPG? What be this?

Company of Hero's Gold:Hmm two games for 40$ both RTS, I liked the Beta multi-player, wonder how much things have changed

Rollar Coaster Tycoon3:Yes I owned two, but I spent much more time devision death-trap rides rather than playing the game

The Longest Journey and Dreamfall:How are they played? And how good are they?

I have to say I liked Indigo up until about the 1/2 point(You know the point I'm talking about) when they start ripping of the Matrix and the Designers started dropping Massive amounts of acid.

I haven't really played Audiosurf that much, but from the amount that I've played, I'd say it's a good casual game that can grow to be more.

I've noticed from the demo which lets you import five songs it's a strong contender, trying to play "Rush" from COWBOY BEBOP O.S.T. 1 almost resulted in my eyes bleeding. I hate to think of what some hard metal songs look like.

Not that hard actually. I tried it with Dragonfroce and Sonata Artica. Neither were particularly impossible.

Difficulty depends not only on the song but on the racer you choose as well.

I would definitely recommend Audiosurf for one; as for the other, Psychonauts is nuts (in a good way) and you can't go wrong with Total War.

I would recommend Shadowgrounds, hopefully both games. Fun if you like isometric shooters.

Does anybody know Vigil: Blood bitterness to be worth it?

And there are these games I would like to know a bit more about:

- Nexus: The Jupiter Accident
- Wik and the fable of souls (can't install the demo)
- Bullet Candy

I'm thinking long and hard about Company of Hero's Gold pack(gold+expansion)

I can tell you right now after twenty minutes of Arx Fatalis I want to chew my own fingers off, arrgh and to think I thought Morrowind was clunky, the controls! They make combat physically painful more so than any force feeback device could hope to simulate!

So, there you go, it's going to be CoH unless I hear different last shot at swaying me elsewhere.

If you get CoH, we can totally revive the SDN CoH games, which have been sorely lacking lately.

Well, the 2 new armies on OF are very very different from the ones in the first game, specially the British, and they make the MP playable for months, and you can easily get 40 hours of gameplay out of the 3 single player campaigns unless you're really good, if you're into SP. At $39.99 is definitely worth it, and it's not likely to go lower soon cause they just set that new price like one week ago.

Nexus is a good idea really badly implemented. Some suggested hte multi was better, but it's a pretty clunky game and a big disappointment for me. There should be a demo from it's retail release out there though.

I recently bought Deus Ex: The Conspiracy and X-Com: Terror From the Deep off of Steam, so I suppose thats my recommendation. Plus X-Com was dirt cheap.

I'd go for Titan Quest if you liked DIablo II at all.
