Metroid Prime 3's rewards and voucher system

Post by Bounty »

I've just bought Prime 3 today. Awesome game. I've done the prologue in about two hours and I've already seen more OH WOW moments than I did in the whole of Prime 1.

But there's something I don't get - the reward system. It's not mentioned in the manual as far as I can see, but from what I can tell, you get these little "S" icons in different colours during the game and you can then trade them for bonus features, correct?

So how do you get the tokens? Kills? Scanned items? Getting to certain levels?

And then there's a voucher system with no explanation. Does that actually do anything?

Yes, basically.

There are various ways to get different ones. Certain kill counts, defeating each boss, etc. I think finding secret areas and getting 100% scans or logs are other ways, but it's been a while. There's also the "stylish kill" and "bowling" tokens that you may have heard about.

You send a voucher to someone on your Wii friends list that has MP3 as well and that person will receive a friend token that can use to unlock certain bonus features. If you want to get the friend tokens and unlock those features, you need to get a friend to send you the vouchers.

So, another step in Nintendo's retarded "Let's force people to use a Wii online otherwise they can't unlock content in a game they've already paid for" policy.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying. I actually haven't received any friend vouchers and so have no friend tokens, and thus haven't unlocked any of that stuff. It's things like a Mii bobblehead for Samus' gunship, bumperstickers for the gunship, and some bonus artwork.

(Still, it's better than some Nintendo games where it's impossible for anything other than the Japanese version to get 100% collection without using some hacking device.)

I can send one over if you like. My friend code is in the sticky.
