There's plenty of purveyors of gangsta culture that would have you believe that OGs armed with gats are capable of doing just that out of sheer ferocity, it's akin to the belief held by some Germans in WWII that their Nordic "fighting spirit" would allow them to overcome any technological, logistical or material shortcoming between them and their opponents. If I had a dime for every time I heard a gangsta rap song lionize their petty small-arms firefights as full-scale warfare, I'd probably never have to miss a bus for lack of change again.

attacking a police station doesn't make sense, when doing it for profit. Any guns, money (confiscated for evidence), drugs (again confiscated) or anything else of value is going to be locked away in a very secure area. The rest of the station is not like a bank where money is held. Hell, even the staff and officers are not likely to have much cash on them to make it worth robbing the place, govt employees make too little.

This HAD to be some kind of gang related initiation or some way for them to prove themselves. Unless there is something else we do not know yet.

I posted this on another board about a week ago, and someone was saying it was "too harsh" for the kids to be charged with attempted armed robbery, since they weren't actually armed.

At least eight people jumped on him about that, luckily.

I wonder... if the hoodlums turned out to be heavily armed and armored like the North Hollywood shooters, how quickly the shotguns and AR15's would come out.

After the North Hollywood shooting, my Father told me that they police would have immediate access to their M-16's and whatnot. This was a long time ago and IIRC, coincided with his department's changeover from .38's to the glock 9mm. A lot of non-issued fancy stuff was being carried around by my Dad and many others.

I would imagine that heavier firepower could be accessed in seconds.

Perhaps they were simply illiterate and couldn't read the sign. Otherwise it would take a certain monumental moronity to pull something like that.

Still perhaps they had heard how the cops confiscate drugs and cash and thought they would liberate some of it...

Hasn't anyone blamed this on GTA yet? Sad part is that it ain't precisely easy to attack a police station in-game either, but well...

In fact, it was the quickest way in the game to get yourself killed unless you were hammering cheats as fast as you could. The only time I remember it made any sense at all to go into a police station was when you got the Cop disguise and could get in without arousing suspicion.

You could still go in the police station without the disguise as long as you don't enter restricted areas.
