I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Just hit MSNBC, too:
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - An aide says science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has died.

Rohan De Silva says Clarke died early Wednesday after suffering from breathing problems. He was 90.

Clarke is the author of more than 100 books, including “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

That really sucks. His books were among my favorites in Science Fiction.

And so the last of The Big Three of science fiction passes into history. He will be sorely missed.

I actually thought he had died a long time ago - Congrats on having more years of life than I'd given you credit for, Mr. Clarke.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Well shucks. The first SF books I read were The Star Fox by Paul Anderson and 2001 by Arthur C. Clarke.
Your visions will be missed. Rest in peace, dear Sir.

I've got the Odyssey quadrology(?) on my shelf just 3 feet from me and downstairs is 2001: A Space Odyssey, one of my favorite films.

Rest in peace, sir.

Fuck.

I know that some people dislike the books he wrote in his last years (coughRamaRevealedcough), but he was a talented writer, a good scientist and an apparently likable fellow.

He will be missed.

My condolences to the family.

Man, when I read his books as a teenager I'd thought he'd already died a long time then - though some news articles alerted me soon after to the contrary otherwise. And that was 20 years ago!

RIP.

Send my regards to Bowman, Floyd and HAL.

First sci-fi author I ever read, my Dad bought me a copy of 'Of Time and Stars'. Sad to see him go, he will be greatly missed.
He was a great one for debunking UFO nuts. Always good to see him point out that aliens would look nothing like us, so no little green, or grey aliens.
As well as being an author, he worked on radar during WW2, helping to develop talk down amongst other things (see 'Glidepath' for a fictionalised account).

Finding myself in the middle of watching the commentary track of 2001, I was thinking a lot about his work from yesterday to now. RIP a great author.
