Torchwood S02E11: Adrift [Spoilers]
Suprised given the creepy one last week no one made a thread.
Seems this time Gwen is being a competent detective. The rift is also two way...

Sweet, it's on Friday. I wasn't home Wednesday so I was afraid I'd have to catch the kiddie version.
The episode is good, but Jack's being a complete retard. He knows that just saying "no" is going to make Gwen look into the case even harder. He's supposed to be running a super-duper-secret team, he should be able to come up with some bullshit cover story by now to throw her off.
Ianto and Jack playing naked hide-and-seek was hilarious. Maybe Ianto was more interesting as the mysterious Jeeves-y type, but he works just as well as Jack's boy toy.
I feel genuinely sorry for Jonah, but what the hell did he do between the fire planet and Jack's cuckoo nest? Did he just hitch-hike home or something?

The only thing creepy about last week was seeing Jack on the film, the rest was waaay overdone to be scary. Normally anything with a circus gives me nightmares for weeks but this didn't do it for me at all.Suprised given the creepy one last week no one made a thread.

I thought it was a step after last weeks bizarreness. And that scream will probably be in my dreams for a while, hah.
Ah the joys of BBC3. Part 1 of the finale sounds pretty interesting, its supposedly a Fireflyish "How everyone got in Torchwood 3 other than Gwen"
Its that or Wossy.....

That is quite a nasty ending to an episode. The mother wishing she hadn't found out what happened to Jonah and his condition make it depressing as anything shown before.
I think in a way, Jack wanted Gwen to find out herself towards the end, like he knew she'd probably find out one day anyway. It at least sets precedent for episodes that involve crossing the rift and finding just where it goes. Evidently Jonah was able to find intelligent and benevolent beings whilst on the other side.

I found it interesting that Jack called it 'the heart of a balck star' I wonder if this is the same as the use of 'black star' to describe the Eye of Harmony, if Jack even knows of such things.

Which is even more bizarre, since there was nothing stopping him from saying "oh, by the way, we run a care home for Rift victims" from the outset. Maybe you're right, maybe he did use reverse psychology, but I don't get why he'd keep the truth from Gwen in the first place. Especially since knowing more about how the Rift works - especially something as basic as "it eats people" - could be a real benefit for the team that guards the damn thing.I think in a way, Jack wanted Gwen to find out herself towards the end, like he knew she'd probably find out one day anyway.
Evidently. I'm just having a lot of trouble digesting the fact that a critically burned teenager dropped in a random part of the universe at a random point in time can get back to Earth in just a few decades. And that doesn't even take the twenty-hours-of-screaming-per-day into account.Evidently Jonah was able to find intelligent and benevolent beings whilst on the other side.
I dread the finale. One of my friends has read spoilers about it and has been whining about them all week...Ah the joys of BBC3. Part 1 of the finale sounds pretty interesting, its supposedly a Fireflyish "How everyone got in Torchwood 3 other than Gwen"

MUCH better than last week's offering, which was the weakest of the season thus far.
Gwen being affected by the consequences of her own actions - it's about time that happened. It's quite clear (to me) that Jack knew she would get emotionally involved to this extent and this is why he tried as hard as he could to stop her discovering the truth.
Good that Rhys pulled her up as well - about time he stopped her walking all over him.
Looking forward to the finale, even though Stark will probably be proved right

Yay! Rhys grew a backbone!
Yes, this is the Americans chiming in with their time-delay. No, it's not a function of rift-energy, wayward Time Lords, or anything exotic, we just get the shows after you do.
I think you're right, Jack wanted her to find out. I suspect Ianto was in on the plot (no doubt he helped set the place up as part of "cleaning up your shit" that he does). OK, WHY did Jack do it that way rather than simply telling Gwen about the Rest Home for Rift Victims?
The only thing I can think of is that by letting it play out this way Gwen would really know, figure out for herself WHY these people really can NOT be sent back to their families. This way, Gwen will be on board with the place where if she's just told it will be a constant "why why why" buzzing in everyone's ear. She'll really understand that this is something that can't be fixed, it can only be dealt with or managed.
As for Nickie... I don't know whether she was really hurt or helped. At the end of the episode she was finally moving on, knowing her son would NEVER be home. But maybe hurt worse knowing he's suffering endlessly. On the other hand... I think that if it was me I would rather know than guess, and take some solace that he was now safe, that there were people who were at least trying to help him even if all that could be done was take care of his physical needs. But then, it's NOT a feel good ending, it was not intended to be, because sometimes things really can't be fixed.
And I'm glad Gwen cried at the end. She SHOULD feel bad. Good intentions aren't enough. Tragedies do happen. People do suffer horribly, Some wounds can't be bandaged and won't heal.
And no, I don't think all of Torchwood 3 knows about the place. Tosh didn't. There is clearly two levels of Torchies - Jack and Ianto clearly know more than Tosh does. Not sure about Owen. Gwen appears to be in the "knows more" group. Why, I'm not sure.
