Target Practice!

Post by Kuja »

Yes, I'm bored. Enjoy cutting this to pieces to keep your skills sharp!

*now entering Rabid Trektard mode*

An Imperial Star Destroyer uses turbo-lasers. It has been said on Star Trek explicitly that lasers do nothing to Federation shields. The Enterprise is more maneuverable, has regenerative shields and (probably) ablative hull armor. Plus, phasers have a better firing arc than turbolasers (Imperial gunners couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, where as the Enterprise rarely misses, even without Worf) and Quantum torpedoes are far more powerful than proton torpedoes or concussion missiles. The Enterprise has point-defense phasers capable of hitting a TIE fighter, and because they have no shields, one hit would destroy them. Also, the Enterprise has transporters, all they would have to do is punch a hole in the SD's shields and then start beaming torpedoes into the Imperial's engine room.

That's just too easy, Iggy!

Surely we can think of something, somewhere, that Trek could stand up to Star Wars at?

Say...forming an argument on something non-military. Like trade or crime rates, for example. You might argue that for a powerful military dictatorship, Star Wars has a much higher, and more powerful, concentration of criminal elements.

I don't know. Personally, I've given up hope of any trekkie, however moderate, coming up with an argument that has any hope of lasting more than two minutes.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

You forgot to mention the fact that Star Wars shields aren't advanced enough to stop anything Star Trek does, or the fact that Star Wars ships run by nuclear fusion. And you didn't even mention warpstrafing, how am I supposed to rip a trektard apart properly if he doesn't mention warpstrafing?

You forgot to add the feebleness of SW shields, with the generators exposed on such evident place...

and how all you need is to fire data out the pho torp launchers and the sw fleet will instantly vaporize because of his special knee emitting solaron raditation which is fatal to Star destroyers because of it's quantum subspace particles seep right through the shields and act as a major explosion when they colide with the thaeleron radition released by geordi's visor..

*My attempt. Note that I do not seriously mean all these things*

1. The Borg would wipe out the Empire. We all know they can adapt to all weapons, given enough time (proven many times throughout TNG and the TNG movies)

2. TurboLASERS. Navigational deflectors. Get the hint?

3. Star Trek ships have much more maneuverability, shown obviously on-screen. Agility > brute force. Star Trek wins.

4. Star Trek has the amazing ability to figure out a solution to anything. Pretty soon, Data or someone similar would find a solution to take down an ISD's shields and do other nasties.

5. ST ships can warp strafe. SW ships cannot.

6. Executor was destroyed by a lowly A-wing. What does that say about the strength of Imperial vessels?

7. Star Trek at least tries to explain its technology, therefore it's more realistic---and better as a result.

8. Lucas sucks.

9. The E-D could hide near the surface of a star. What are 200GT turbolasers gonna do now?

10. ST beats SW. LALALALALAA I can't hear yoouu!!!

Very basic arguements. Excuse me while I "compliment" Darkstar by saying he had at least a weird arguement that required some work to tear into itty bitty pieces.

Also, we already know about Thomas Lee's site, there's a thread already about it both here and at SB.com. And, sinc eI technically claimed dibs, I already e-mailed him about the numbers.
