WiC: Soviet Assault expansion pack

Post by Vympel »

Announced

Here's to a Soviet campaign - hopefully with voice-acting in Russian by someone who can actually speak it? 8)

They better give me my fucking BMP-3s too.

Hinds! Hinds! Hinds! Hinds!

Did I say Hinds?

Actually, I'm regretting I bought the game, I usually wait for the "deluxe" packs that include the expansions.... And I hate the "games for windows" brand.... but well, the game's worth it.

Hinds!

I know, I should call it letayushiy tank or Krokodil... darn NATO designations.

I think I'm the only person on the board who's played it in the last month. Also, I have to wonder if they'll add more units - doesn't seem like there's much room. Still, assuming I have any disposable income it's definitely on the to-buy list.

Nobody seems to know what actual content there is. There's no fucking way I'm buying it if it's an SP campaign and a few new maps: it better have some new content for MP or they can suck my cock.

Alan, JSF and I used to play a lot, but the 1.0006 patch (with the hella nerfing) put us off. Let's fuck up the game because air players are whiners!

That's standard patching procedure for game companies.

A mod similar in concept to BF1942's Experience World War II for modern combat would be great, if someone got to doing it...

Doesn't seem worth it, if it's just a new campaign and some maps. By the way, does anyone know when World in Conflict is being released for the 360? Because that game would make my computer explode in a fireball large enough to wipe out the human race.

There's a 360 version in the works. It's also going to come with the Soviet campaign too - I'm guessing there's an about even chance they make the controls so bad it's nearly unplayable though.

If the Soviet campaign is of the same quality as the original one then I'm sold, that had some awesome voice acting and some of the best cutscenes I've seen in an RTS game. It doesn't bother me they won't be adding new units, there simply aren't that many they could add. The developer on the official forums seemed to be hinting that there was more in the works than just new maps and a new campaign.

Yeah if the single player campaign is of the same sort of quality as the original, then I'll be perfectly happy paying for it, even IF they don't put any new vehicles in (frankly I'm thinking they probably will). And fuck multi player, I have fun playing it against other people online, but I mostly got WIC for the single player.

They SO need to get Sean Connery to do the voice of a Russian General though :D

Hope they add SP skirmish maps. Sounds like it's just going to show the Soviet Side from the SP campaign, though. I was hoping for a continuation of the story.

But the Soviets lose. If I'm going to pay good money for this I would at least want the pleasure of opening an old-fashioned can of Communist whoopass on the American bourgeois pigs... And not have said whoopass end with "PS after your final victory you still get driven into Seattle harbour".

Uh, I thought they nerfed AA and air. If anything it's a boost for tanks, and makes arty 'usually stupid' instead of 'entirely useless.'

What are everyone's thoughts on the 360 version? I heard that there's a max of 10 players; is that true? Wouldn't that create a lot of problems in mutiplayer, since both sides would have to have somekind of role imbalance? I played the demo for a while and liked it but decided not to get it because my computer can't really run it that well, even on the lowest settings.

Edit:
By the way, does anyone know when World in Conflict is being released for the 360?
I heard late October from somewhere. Not sure though.

Yeah, and tanks didn't need a boost. Used to be, tanks working with support or air = win: now air is weaker and so is AA. It's rear penentration, storm up-and-down the spawn bullshit and it's boring.

Sorry, if your tanks get jumped by Apaches, you're dead. This is as it should be. The nerfs were a response to the 1.0005 ones, where they buffed AA (to try to weaken air, since air was crazy powerful). People whinged because it made AA less useless, but JSF (an air noob) was still able to attack and kill paired HAA without losses (I told him how in a garbled VOIP message). However, idiots don't want to think, and the change from 'air flying around killing everyone' to 'air has to think about HAA and plan attacks while still being hugely powerful' was terrible and a horrible nerf etc. In 1.0006 they rolled back the AA changes and nerfed choppers instead, which for the week or so after patch basically gave armour a free pass. In my opinion 1.0005 was fine, I was an air player and I didn't think it was bad at all. SAMs kill my choppers? ZOMG IMBA!

Ah well. As a support/inf player, I appreciated the challenge. Most air players still can't kill me, so long as I smoke right.

Yeah, infantry is great all-round on the right maps. Most support players just don't pay attention and miss the 5-chopper squad working around them, and then when they die cry 'zomg imba'.

I think we played as assault on bridge once with the SDN guys: you did really well as AA. But remember, that's only because they were 'too powerful' and not because you had them in a good spot and idiots kept driving past! :)

What the game needs more then anything else is a higher unit cap and higher all around weapons lethality. Let each player have either have his own combined arms task force instead of a strong platoon. They also need less stupid objectives to capture.

Eww, no no no. I like the platoon thing. Go make a mod server or something, if that's really what you want.

You can already play 'few player' mode where everyone gets all units. Whinging about it is nuts.
