And I fail to see how you can interpret this as anything other than an attack on our nation's unborn!
That nonsense aside, it seems like an odd phrasing, especially out of context. Sure, he’s just talking about support for sex ed. You’d have to be a mouth-breathing idiot or have an axe to grind to read anything more into it, but we have plenty of mouth-breathing idiots with axes to grind around here. Also, it’s guaranteed to be replayed out of context and it’s just not going to go over well because, let’s face it, that an awfully odd way to put it.
This, incidentally, is one of the biggest problems I have with sound-bite politics. These people (political candidates that is) have to talk all the time. Of course they’re going to mis-speak, make factual errors, or flub a name here and there. It’s human nature and given the sheer volume of talking that they do, it’s astonishing they mess up as little as they do. But every time they do, it’s a week-long circus that deflects attention from their campaigns and actual platforms.
Please don’t misunderstand. It’s newsworthy that John McCain apparently does not conceive of the political importance of the Sunni-Shiite divide, or that Senator Clinton “mis-spoke” about an incident which happened completely differently than even the most generous interpretation of her story. If Senator Obama makes a comment that showcases a fundamental misunderstanding or lies about his past service than that will be news-worthy too. But nonsense like this is just grist for the media which can then be endlessly repeated by partisan bloggers and columnists. Now the whole campaign can grind to a halt while Senators Obama and Clinton can race to prove who loves babies more and Senator McCain can smugly talk about how much he loves his grandkids and he doesn’t think of them as punishment.
Bleh.
(come to think of it, does McCain have grandkids? He has adult children so I figured he would)
