Looks like some species of Italian Caproni bomber, maybe a Ca.4 or 6 or some version of it? I thought it might be a Ca.33 or 36 at first, but I don't think it's got the middle wing. The only reason I know is because I used to be heavily into FS2000 and Combat Flight Sim, trying to make models with Flightshop and X-plane. You can't beat the old 'Knights of the Sky' on the Amiga though, best flight game ever. What a bizarre looking beast this one is, and what a size! It's a wonder it ever got off the ground.

A Caproni Ca-4 it is. And not only did it get off the ground, it was a fully combat capable aircraft. Basis for the more powerfull and well known Ca-42.
Well that's no good, I know sod all about ships! Well, not completely, I'm not too bad on Russian Submarines of the cold war period. Hey, are you sure this is a Ca4, the only photos I've seen of one had another pontoon or fairing down between the wheels?

I can't believe some of those things got off the ground, it's incredible! Must have been on acid when they designed the 60 though, that was just NEVER going to happen.
The Ca-60 was an attempt to create a trans-Atlantic airliner. It was based on the hull of a houseboat, that to quote a lost book of mine, "could have happily plied the waters of lake Maggiore had Count Caproni not had the urge to fly it across the Atlantic". On it's first test "flight" it actually got a couple feet in the air before disintegrating.
I intend to. But Enlightenment asked me to limit this to a once a week thang, for a couple reasons, and I'd hate to run out of my goodies too fast. That, and there are only so many obscure planes in the world, and if you haven't noticed, there's a few smart cookies around here. I wouldn't want to make it too easy for 'em.
(edit) That's also why I will be including ships, tanks, and cars. More diversity means longer lived idea.
A week is a rough guideline but go ahead and post another one if this one's finished with and the people are asking for more. I just don't want several of these things running at once for fear of boring or annoying the readers.
