A more scary scenario regarding that, is what happens when a terraformed world is thrown back? Evolution forms one of the most important basis for biology but there would be none to little evidence to it on a terraformed world.

I do remember that in Le Guin's Heinish Cycle the colonization was limited to worlds with existing primitive man like life forms.

no, it wasn't.

Earth was an experiment were Hainish were left on world with primate life, but other worlds did not have such, like Gethan (which was a different sort of experiment)
