Prequel Jedi Order inspired by...

Post by Omeganian »

It is sometimes said that the Star Wars have been inspired By Asimov's Foundation series. That means the Order is likely based on the Second Foundation. However, it has occurred to me that the Jedi Order in the Prequel trilogy resembles a much less comely organization, a likely child of the Oceanian Party.

I'm talking about Asimov's Eternity.

Consider. It is a strict organization, existing outside of time, which watches and corrects timelines in the name of the "greater happiness". A person who is to work for them is taken away from his family, never to return. He is allowed no attachments.

Marriage is allowed by special permission to one person out of a hundred. No one can ever be assigned to work for a time less than two centuries from his own, with preference given to times different from his as much as possible (Was Anakin ever assigned to a desert world mission? Not sure about that.) He is reassigned if he starts feeling attachment to that time.

The leader is a short, queer guy, whom the main hero doesn't recognize as such at first, and who speaks to him queerly (at the beginning).

While on the short run, the organization does achieve greater happiness (the way they understand it), ultimately, the stagnation they cause brings disaster.

It falls because the main hero fell in love with a woman. Falls quickly and tracelessly.

It is destroyed, because the way must be cleared for the Galactic Empire...
Q: How are children made in the TNG era Federation?

A: With power couplings. To explain, you shut down the power to the lights, and then, in the darkness, you have the usual TOS era coupling.
