I guess this episode explores what Dawson's Creek would have been like with explosives. Captain John is such an emo bitch.

I have to say, nice build-up here. The dialogue is cheap, but the little stuff like Jack's nod really works.

Also, who the hell builds a reactor that goes into meltdown when the remote server dies? Have these people not heard of automatic shutdowns?

Not a very interesting one, unfortunately. It's a sad day when you're out-acted by Barrowman in a non-campy scene.

Owen dies twice. That must really suck. There are no continues this time, my friend.

And Tosh joins him.

I can't say the ending was all that moving. Tosh's video was okay, as was Owen's end, but the rest... it was all a bit by-the-numbers. Not bad, but if it wasn't for the deaths, it could easily have slotted in to the middle of the season as a filler episode.

It did need to be more epic, which is what it seemed from the trailers, but it kind've fizzled out by halfway. The loss of two characters was a surprise, I'll admit, though I consider they've set up the concept of Torchwood being made of various people over the ages with the previous week's episode. So it wasn't going to always be Jack's present team, there will be new blood.

There might have been a bit of a time jump there between him being dug up and asking to be frozen but was Jack really not effected at all for being buried for 1884 years

It was quite peaceful until those Torchwood bozos dug him up. Just ask Bender.

I say he dug himself out and took an eighteen-hundred-year holiday before going back in to be found. And he bought a new coat before he went back into his grave, because wool doesn't not decompose when you bury it for centuries.

There must be a limit to how much he can be traumatised. You'd imagine getting shot with a laser screwdriver, or however the Master decides to amuse himself on any given day, over and over, would already have fucked him up a fair bit.

Never mind that I'm sure the Master dissected him at least once to try and see what makes him go.

Owen and Tosh's deaths struck me as incredibly contrived. Apart from the "Whoops! COOLANT OF DEATH from nowhere!" it would strike me as odd that Jack would go straight down to the cells without even glancing round the main room.

Also, uh, I've missed a few episodes, is Owen still all zombiefied? Because I don't really get why what happened would "kill" him if he was...

Reactors in Torchwoodverse are cooled with radioactive acid, apparently. He was going to "dissolve".

Well presumeably the power plant wouldn't have been built to vent coolant directly into the control room, y'know?

That reactor just wasn't right. When Owen does his little monologue about "heated fuel lines" and "containment breaking down" I just sat there screaming "THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS!".

Why didn't they just say it was some kind of experimental Torchwood thing that John rigged to explode? That I would've understood. But come on, when you put in a nuclear reactor, at least look up what the damn thing is supposed to be like.

The guy was actually dead before, you don't think they can contrive a way out for him from this minor situation?
